Chinese New Year Eve Walkabout : Keong Hee Huat Chye!!!

It was the eve of Chinese New Year and since it was a relaxing day for me, I decided to spend the morning at 1 Utama. Eh, so free one, ah? How about the kenduri that night?

This year, it is a quiet Chinese New Year for me because my mum sent orders to us "not to come home". Drama, I tell you.

No lah, hah..hah... My mum is recuperating from a broken arm and dad, as you may know, is also recuperating from surgery which took place towards end of last year. Dad is very much recovered, praise God, and he has been looking after mum.

By right, I should have gone home to look after her but knowing my mum, it would be more stressful for her if I did. She does not like to trouble her children and she is a very strong and capable lady. Dad has been very supportive and he is well enough to look after her.

They are both tired and wanted a reprieve after having spent many stressful months over here and having to cope with mum's predicament so soon after their return home. I totally understand my parents' thinking and they deserve some free time to themselves. My brothers and I respect their wishes.

So like many people who have nothing better to do, I went to the mall. I rather like the Chinese New Year decorations at 1 Utama. Flowers, umbrellas, lanterns and the animal sign which looks rather benign.

They don't actually look like pigs do they?

These I believe are narcissus flowers.

So lovely, these hanging flowers. I am a sucker for flowers. As I walked towards around, something caught my eye.

Le Creuset!!!

Gah!!!

Double gah!!!

Those pastel pink ones are so pretty. I did not bother to look at the price. Even after 50% discount, I still cannot afford. Madam, you already have 3 dutch ovens. How many pots do you need? Ok, ok, walk away .........

Then I went to Aeon. These glass lock containers are very affordable. They are fabulous for food prep.

Anyone interested in glass lock containers, I highly recommend that you get these. It's cheap at these prices.

I won't be buying anymore as I have so many already.

Then I got hungry. I made my way to Menya Musashi.

And I ordered a bowl of Niku Niku Ramen (RM39.00).

Eh, why so much meat? I have forgotten the one that I usually order and because of my bad eyesight, I could not read the menu properly.

Then I realized that I have ordered the one with 6 pieces of meat. Pengsan, I tell you. But knowing me, I finished everything.

On my way out of the mall, I found Patchi! This is high end chocolates and they are awesome. It looks more like a jewellery store and I dare not walk in. This sort of place, you don't browse. You go in with a deep pocket and an intention to purchase. Bah! So I went home empty handed.

It's the first day of Chinese New Year today, so I shall wish one and all KEONG HEE HUAT CHYE! HUAT AH! May all of you be blessed with good health, happiness and prosperity! And may I be able to afford a Le Creuset pot and a big basket of Patchi chocolates.

  2. First things first, wishing you (and your family) a happy Lunar New Year...and may you be able to afford Le Creuset and Patchi chocolates in the year ahead! ;) I too did not balik kampong (to Ipoh) this year. It's good that she sent orders to you 'not to come home' as it'd be more stressful and tiring for her to have to cook big meals for more family members.

Hmmm, Le Creuset...that's the brand of cast iron cookware if I want to buy one (or when I can afford one). I believe you bought Lodge. Le Creuset have the most amazing and beautiful range of colours. As for the Bros glasslock containers, your recommendation is too late...haha...I already bought some as I thought the prices were unbelievable too.

    1. Thank you for your wishes hee..hee... Since you don't already own any cast iron cookware, then you should look to buy a Le Creuset (or hint hint to your husband) because I find cast iron excellent for cooking things like steak or stews and anything that needs braising.

Though you also did not balik kampung, I hope that you are having a wonderful Lunar New Year with your family at home!
