Rojak Cendol and More

For many Saturdays after dad was discharged from hospital, I have been having lunches with my parents and my brother at his house.

My brother goes out to tapau food for us and most of the time we have our favorite chicken rice. One day he delighted us with char koay teow and popiah.

The popiah is from a van in SS 2 that is famous for their goreng pisang.

Though the filling is ordinary, the popiah was very crispy and crunchy.

Very good eaten with the chili sauce that came with it or even better with Lingham chili sauce.

This char koay teow is from a coffee shop in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. My brother says that this CKT is very good. The stall is run by a lady who insists on frying her CKT plate by plate.

I'll have to agree with my brother that this CKT is awesome!

Yum! Yum!

Another day, it was Indian rojak. Yay! He bought 4 packets for the three of us, so it was 1 and 1/3 per person hee..hee...

Oh! It was so so good!

Not only that, also got cendol! Of course by the time the cendol reached home, it was all melted but still so good.

The rojak and cendol are from a restaurant somewhere in PJ State.

My brother couldn't find anymore big mugs, so he poured his into a bowl.

Well, that sure was fun. By the way, dad is recovering well and can now eat regular food. Which means that my porridge now sudah tak laku hah...hah....

  5. What a fabulous brother you have who would drive to few destinations to tapao the best for his loving family.

I know which CKT seller and she looks like Hong Kong Tycoon Nina Wang with pony tail. Even my Penang friends love her CKT stall which is just a walking distance from my door. Hint! Hint!

You should advise your brother to place the chendol or ABC in ice buckets while driving. They will look the same when reached home. Say thank you!

  6. Hi Phong Hong,

I have came across your blog and I found that you have a deep understanding on the use of Kaychiap.
I'm the grandson of "Mek Da" the only and current kaychiap maker in Kuala Terengganu, my grandma is old and she will stop making kaychiap soon; After knowing this, I decided to carry on the work because we don't want to see the precious tradition went dead...

  8. Oh, I've eaten the goreng pisang but not the fried popiah. You must share with us which CKT this is in TTDI so that I can try. So nice and rajin of your brother to buy CKT in TTDI and then go to SS2 to buy popiah. When there's rojak, there must be cendol...btw, I think there's a mathematical error in the rojak...kekeke...I can understand coz you must be drooling while writing the post! ;)

TM: Thanks for telling me it's OK Restaurant..and you're right, it's on Jalan Aminuddin Baki. I know exactly where it is since you jolted my memory that I had wine and music there (your memory is really good). I went back to check that post of mine...and lo and behold...I even got a snapshot of the coffee shop.

  9. Hi Phong Hong, the Indian Rojak is what we call Pasembor. We have Chinese Pasembor similar to this. Nice with all the crispy ingredients. The Indian Rojak in Penang comes with many other fried stuff like prawn fritters, fried crabs etc. I prefer the one without all these.
