Windmill@Subang Jaya

This is a restaurant that my brother and I visit only when we are doing our hospital rounds. The first time was in 2001 when dad was admitted and then in 2015 when we visited our uncle

Well, dad was admitted to hospital recently (he has since been discharged) and we decided to go down memory lane.

The decor is quite jaded and it sort of transports you back in time.

In fact the cushion I sat on had seen better days.

Now on with the food. I decided to try something different - The Teriyaki Steak, which I regretted when it came like this...

...the steak cut into small pieces. So my request for medium rare beef was scuppered as the sizzling hot plate overcooked the meat.

But thankfully, the meat was still tender though I did not get much of the teriyaki taste. It came with a side salad which was drenched dressed in Thousand Island dressing.

My brother opted for the Mixed Grill, which looked very different from the one I had on our previous visit.

It looked very good (though my photo does not do justice) and the portion was very generous. I was hit with a bout of plate envy. Since the serving was big, my brother could not finish his food and passed me some of his grilled lamb.

Oh, it was so good! I must have the Mixed Grill should we visit again.

Oh, they still serve this chili sauce which my brother gave a good shake because the sauce separated.

For drinks, we had Ice Lemon Tea and I am happy to note that the drinks were not too sweet.

I did return for Mixed Grill and it did not disappoint.

  1. Ooooo...love the orchids! Too bad about the place being kinda run down but fresh flowers is always an added bonus. Food looks good despite your remarks - I wish you had mention the prices so one would be able to judge as to whether this place is worth checking out or not.

  2. Your steak did looked rather dry. Tough beef is a no-no. Luckily yours was tender.

I like the look of this jaded place.

    1. It's good, you can share with your dining companions as it's a really big portion.

  4. I don't mind the jaded place as long as the food is good. I find that mixed grill is always a safer choice. My personal opinion from experience. Lol!

  5. I also ate there many times because of that hospital next door. Hmm, I said many times so you could guess how many times both my late parents got admitted.

I think I enjoyed their oxtail soup and fried rice. I could barely remember much because I was always sad and stressed when I was eating there! Muahahahaha

    1. Oh, I see your late parents were admitted there too. I can imagine how you felt, I hope my dad does not need anymore hospital stays.

  6. Where my parents live there is actually a real windmill with a restaurant inside. I don't believe the food is too good though.

    1. Oh, how interesting! I have never seen a real windmill up close, only in photos and television.

  8. This Windmill restaurant is in the same boat as the golden oldies like The Ship and Victoria Station that serves localised western food. Windmill is the cheapest but the youngest of the three. I've not been to these golden oldies for years as there are so many new western joints with a more creative menu. If I were to go to these, it's purely for nostalgic reasons....haha! ;)

    1. Respect indeed as it is still surviving while many new ones are closed or closing down.

  12. Oh...that bowl of salad, I think I will scoop out the top part with generous dressing and eat the "clean" veggies at the bottom. This is how I had the salad when I was served with salad with mayo dressing~ LOL
