Seng Kee Chicken Rice

One weekend, having no idea where to eat, my partner and I made our way to Seng Kee Chicken Rice@Uptown Damansara. The first time we visited, we were not impressed.

But Seng Kee Chicken Rice has improved much since then. I have been back 2 or 3 times prior to this visit and I was quite pleased.

I wanted kampung chicken but was informed that they were out so we had to settle for regular chicken.

It was quite good, but of course kampung chicken would have been much better.

Having eaten their siew yoke twice before (no improvement there), we ordered the char siew.

Tastewise, it was actually not bad except that the sauce was way too sweet. It had smokey flavors and would be much nicer if they dialed down on the sweet sauce.

For vegetables, we always opt for beansprouts.

What can I say? This met our expectations, so no complaints. This may seem like a simple dish but not every restaurant gets it right.

The chicken rice was very tasty and fragrant with the rice grains nicely separated.

For drinks, we shared a herbal drink which was not too sweet.

The soup was alright, mildly flavored and not too salty.

When I started snapping photos, my partner, who was in a playful mood asked me if I wanted to snap his slippers. So.

Just to humor him.

That was a very good meal and I see us coming here when we want our chicken rice fix.

  1. Good that they have improved. There are so many tasty food to eat in Uptown on top of my to-eat list that I don't think I will ever get down my list to this chicken shop because eating chicken is my last choice, hahahaha. Nothing to eat only I will eat chicken.

  2. Chicken with transports are the best combination to me. I just had steamed chicken rice for lunch today.

  5. Eh! Eh! Both of you love to play slippers! From Ritz-Carlton to underneath coffee shop table pun boleh! What kinda fetish game is this? Muahahahaha

I am curious why you prefer ayam kampung? I thought the meat is tougher.

  6. I love that char siew!!! I wish they could do it like that here, ours are generally quite disappointing, Foochow town. :(

Personally I am not a fan of kampung chicken, has a smell, not to my liking. Very expoensive here - very cheap in KL, it seems. My in-laws would come back from there with a lot and would give us some...until I said I would not want anymore, I don't like it much.

    1. That char siew had nice flavors, if only the sauce is less sweet. I prefer kampung chicken because the flesh is firmer and it tastes better to me.

  7. The last time I had the char siew here, it didn't look like the one served to you (mine was way leaner) and there was no sweet sauce on top (maybe because I had it with wantan mee). The siew yuk I had also looked different to the ones you had. I see that they're quite inconsistent! >_< Anyway, I hope you get to try the poached kampung chicken, that's one thing that's good here :)

    1. Yup, the chicken is the only safe thing to eat here. It looks like kampung chicken is more popular.

  9. Indeed he has a good sense of humour! LOL.. Some people like the normal chicken, kampung ones are tougher but don't know why, I always buy the tougher ones but not the mother hen though, that is really the toughest of them all! LOL...

  12. Good to know that the rice is nice and fragrant as Sam addicts to rice like this and she can eat a big rice by her own.
