Mongolian Chicken

Or is this Thai chicken? I ask because the sauce is made with Thai chili sauce. So how is it Mongolian? Never mind. Asal sedap, sudah.

I had a Mongolian Chicken at a restaurant in Terengganu and it was nothing like this one.

Mongolian or not, it was delicious. The chicken pieces are deep fried and then tossed in a sauce made with Thai chili sauce, tomato ketchup, chili sauce (I did not have any so I omitted), plum sauce (which I accidentally omitted), Maggi seasoning and lime juice.

This recipe comes from my latest stash of cookbooks purchased recently from Popular Bookstore.

It all started with this one.

Because I couldn't resist this.

Then I got a voucher from the purchase that led to this, where the Mongolian Chicken came from.

And this. Tsk!

Never mind that I already have so many cookbooks, I can't stop this addiction. Since it got me cooking a new dish, it was a worthwhile buy, don't you think?

  1. I love cookbooks and used to buy from Popular. But it has been a while since I bought one. Usually I downloaded the recipe from internet.

Hmm. Mongolian chicken. Somehow yours doesnt look like it. I tasted Mongolian pork in Sibu. It was good and slightly spicy.

  4. Don't worry...you're not the only addict! Cookbook addict, I mean. I have the same addiction. Worse still, I've 'graduated' from 'no name' cheap cookbooks to 'branded ones' of celebrity chefs (which are more expensive, obviously). I buy these books not to try out the recipes (I've actually cooked only a handful from the many I have) but to read and gawk at the delicious food photos. I just can't resist collecting cookbooks...and it's ever growing! ;)

  13. sometimes it feels like a lot of the 'mongolian' recipes we see in KL are a bit suspect ... this requires a trip to mongolia to investigate! but one thing's for sure - your recipe would be tempting to any malaysian or mongolian :D

  17. Hi Phong Hong, I am trying very hard not to lay my hands on new recipe books. Flipping through them is okay. I still have several decades old recipe books with lots of recipes to try. Only thing is time constraint.
