Curry Laksa vs Japanese Laksa


Just in case you thought that I am so good for staying on a low carb diet, I do deviate from time to time. I was badly behaved one particular day.

After eating the wanton mee at Pudu Chan Fatt Wanton Mee (CLOSED) I returned to eat their Curry Laksa


Look at that. So beautifully red and filled to the brim with beancurd puffs (taupok), fried beancurd skin, poached chicken and my choice of noodles.


I have a thing for koay teow, so that was my choice. The laksa gravy was quite lemak. Not bad at all although I still prefer the one at you-know-where

But I enjoyed it enough to finish 3/4 of the gravy. And I am happy to note that I did not experience any bloating or thirst which means that there was no (or very little) msg in the laksaThe sambal belacan was pretty good and accompanied the curry laksa perfectly. 

It was a very stressful day at the office. And stress means I am in need of comfort eating. My curry laksa was digested rather quickly too. So. I had to have another carbo fix a little later in the day.


Japanese laksa hee..hee... This was at Mitsuyado Sei-Men@The Starling. Instead of tsukemen, I had the Spicy Ramen & Half-Boiled Egg

Am I happy or what? Love the smoky flavor of the spicy broth. So happy that I can enjoy a bowl of ramen on a work day.


I thoroughly enjoyed my second dose of spicy noodles for the day. So satisfied. So happy. So fat. Haiz..............

  1. Japanese laksa?? I did not know Japanese eats laksa. Must be a fusion dish. I know Japanese curry, not laksa.

    And wow! Your curry laksa was fiery!!

  2. I know you so well when you said you-know-where! I can read your shadows & mind too. I believe that Annie cooks the best curry laksa in KL.
    So I must try your "Japanese Laksa". Why on earth are there so many laksa now?

  3. Whoa, the curry has a very nice colour. I must go and try...fast, fast! ;) I'm amazed at how you're able to handle no carbs on one day and then go carb-fest on another...not easy. Looks like you're quite a regular at this ramen and tsukemen place...but a bowl of noodles at RM40 takes its toll on the pocket :( When it comes to Japanese curry, no fight-lah with our local curry...wahahahaha! :D

  6. I would hantam the local laksa anytime, looks good! Extra tau fu pok for me, yum! I don't really like Japanese curry, so I would probably pass on that.

  7. Hi Phong Hong, like Joyce I will go for the local laksa [in Penang, we call this noodle, curry mee]. Love the tofu puff and the spicy rich flavour of the santan soup. Anyway, it is a matter of familiarity of taste and flavour.

  10. Japanese laksa? I think I still prefer our own Malaysian curry laksa with coconut milk and all. My kids absolutely love Japanese curry so I cooked that last week for the very first time. Don't think I will cook it again!
