Yesterday I ate early (again) because I had lots of things to do and I figured it was best to get lunch out of the way.
I wasn't in the mood for anything in particular and the simplest solution was to eat chap fan (again) at 282 Mixed Rice.
They had a herbal chicken dish, so I took a thigh. Then I couldn't resist their Thai style fish fillet and marmite chicken (again!).
The chicken thigh was very fresh and I could detect the aroma of dong quai. I remembered when I was a teen, my mum told me about how some women consumed dong quai chicken soup and the herb is very "smelly".
I think she meant that dong quai has a strong aroma. I had no idea because our family does not consume Chinese herbs. I happen to find dong quai aromatic and my first taste was when my partner took me to eat herbal duck noodles. I actually love it.
The marmite chicken tasted better (than the day before) and I have always loved their Thai style fish fillet (though the fillets were soggy).
After makan, I figured I needed some coffee to keep me perky heh..heh... Instead of getting coffee from the Kaw Kaw Kopi truck (which was a bit further away), I came here instead.
One of the staff asked if I would like to also tapau some pastries as they were fresh from the oven. But I declined but told her that these were my favorites.
The Bursting Kaya Puff. Gah! But no, I was not tempted and I could just look at the puffs and walk away with no regret. I will come back for these later on but not so soon. After all, I have had my fill of them earlier on.
This was my tapau order of their iced Kopi C (no sugar). It was nice to sip the coffee the whole morning while drafting an appeal letter to LHDN. Yah, my favorite activity >.<
My other fatty bom bom was still sitting at her feeding station, expecting more food. These days I feed her smaller portions to prevent her from throwing up. A few mornings ago she really stressed me up when she vomited after breakfast. Then the same evening Girl pulak vomited after dinner. Tsk!
But most if not all contain sugar, even the one that said no sugar added. I suppose that is the way that it is, when they roast the coffee beans, they add sugar to the mix. The amount of sugar might be negligible so I took one packet to try. I'll let you know how it goes when I make my kopi this weekend.
Cats vomit after eating too fast may due to various reasons, e.g. hair balls. It happens to my 2 cats sometimes. The cats felt guilty after making a mess & hid themselves, so afraid that I would scold them. I bought slow feed bowls for them. The bowls help a bit in a way.
ReplyDeleteOh I see, I must look into getting slow feed bowls. My Belle Belle tends to overeat as well and that could be one of the reasons. Now I put less food for her and top up later when she wants more.
DeleteIs that cucumber? Thai style? I guess it is raw then - I do not like cucumber cooked. These days, there are a lot of Thai style dishes - I do enjoy those a lot. You did not get the fish hot from the wok so of course, it has gone all soggy. They always coat with batter and deep fry before use to cook whatever dish. I love dong quai too...but they say it is one herb mainly for women, not for men. LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, that's cucumber raw. They also do that style with chicken sometimes and I always cannot resist!
DeleteDid you ask your mother why your family do not eat dong guai? I guess there must be a reason, right? I like the dong guai taste too.
ReplyDeleteWell, my grandma never cooked those herbs and that's we never consumed herbal dishes.
DeleteAh Girl and Belle Belle, so happy at home with mommy. Wow! Your bowl of porky luxurious from ding xiang looks so good to my spouse, exactly what he loves to eat. ๐๐คค
ReplyDeleteMaybe next visit to Damansara Uptown, you can bring him to enjoy the mixed pork soup.
DeleteThere is Ding xiang in Sri Petaling and we have bought food from there a long time ago. Thanks for the suggestion.
DeleteAh yes, now I remember they have a branch there. Good that you and hubby have tried the food.
DeleteI guess chap fan is the easiest (if eating out) if you're a carnivore. But you'll have to choose the dishes wisely if you want to cut off sugar....such as dishes like sweet & sour pork/fish (very obvious from the word "sweet"), marmite chicken/pork, lemon chicken/fish, Thai-style fish/chicken (but those very dishes also seem to be your favourites, difficult to resist, huh?) or just about any sourish dish, even assam fish and pickled veggies. Anything that's sour or pickled, you'd know that a good amount of sugar has gone into it to balance out the sourness. But between Chinese chap fan and Malay mixed rice, the former is still a lot healthier as it's our choice to choose the not-sauce laden stir-fried veggies. Malay mixed rice, almost everything is either in sambal or santan and even though I love it, I try to limit that to once a week or 2 weeks. I've seen the insane amount of sugar they put into the cooking of sambals to balance out the spiciness (that's why you always find people saying that some sambal is more sweet than spicy). >.< P/S: Yeah, your best bet with instant coffee is still those 2-in-1 (with no sugar added or go kosong when dining out) as most, if not all, coffee beans are roasted with sugar already added to the beans (I guess that can't be helped if we want coffee). If you're looking for kopitiam kopi-o, I'm afraid I've not found any instant ones that are worthy or better than those sold in traditional coffee shops. I've tried quite a few brands and they always have this remnant at the bottom of the cup that makes you go...urgh!
ReplyDeleteYup it is the easiest but like you said, I can't resist the sweet and sour and other sweet dishes. Haiz! The Malays also tend to deep fry the chicken/fish as well (coated with turmeric powder) before mixing them making those delicious sauces like masak merah (which I also cannot resist!). You will be shocked if you ever taste Kelantan or Terengganu curries because they are on the sweet side, which many people from the West coast find strange.
DeleteI guess the coffee that tastes the best are from the ground beans and not instant and must be brewed the old fashioned way. No short cuts to the good taste!
I always have Zap Fan when I'm not bringing my lunch to office.
ReplyDeleteIt is very convenient and cheaper than eating other food.
DeleteI love to eat Chinese dishes with herbs and dong quai. It's not something I could have the chance to eat daily. Sometimes I drank the soup too much until my head got dizzy and mabuk. Serious!
ReplyDeleteYou never failed to amaze me with all the unmentionables that you ate. I think I have psychological issues that I cannot swallow all the parts like you. You need to teach me how to eat besides livers. My best friend even loves pig ears and tails! He said the pig ears must have some hairs showing so that it's appetizing. Penang has lots of Siau Lang. Haha.
I used to throw my sister's cats up and down to help them vomit. You can swing them as if they are taking rollercoaster rides at Ocean Park. Guaranteed sure to muntah out one long train of hair balls and grass. Wakakakaka
LOL! I like those Chinese soups that have wine added. So syiok! But there was one time I added to much wine and I actually felt dizzy >.<
DeleteMy partner also loves pig ears! We usually get that at the chap fan stalls. In fact my grandma has a famous dish among our family - pig ears kerabu! So good and addictive eaten with keropok hee..hee..
Alamak! I wonder if your sister knew what you did to her cats. LOL! Oh yes, I have seen grass in my cats' vomit when they do it outside,
