This happened back in April after I spotted this new eatery, or rather watering hole, D'Atas Bistro.
When I walked past, I took a look at the menu and noted that they serve quite a wide selection of local and western dishes. So I made a note to check them out.
As you can see, the ambiance is very nice. Got the atas feel a bit lah compared to the usual places that I go to.
How much can I drink? One glass like this is already quite a lot so the free flow thing is lost upon me.
This is the Indian Chicken Vindaloo served with rice. The presentation is stiff and clinical (not that I am judging, what is important is the taste).
Lunch was 1/4 duck and a kopi O ais kosong. To make sure that they do not add sugar to my coffee, I approached the lady boss to have a word with her.
Dinner was beef sausages bought from Jaya Grocer. This is their in-house (frozen) sausages.
These were grilled in my new Ninja Foodi Grill and they were nicely done with grill marks (but not apparent in the photo).
But sadly these sausages bo ho chiak (not delicious).
Too bad what you had was not so atas. Often it is better to eat at those cheap no class at all places, not so pretentious...and what they serve may be a whole lot nicer.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I chose the wrong dish. The other dishes could have fared better, I don't know.
DeleteOk, thanks for the warning review on the nice looking bistro. That is a lot of rice so no wonder you couldn't finish it as you are off carb already. Nowadays I am a scaredy cat and try to stay away from sausages because since meat is expensive now, I wouldn't want to take the risk of them using budget meat of unknown creatures. Same goes for all the food that has meat fillings but quite different to totally stay away as sometimes need to help kaki makan eat siew Mai and baos. Lolx! ๐
ReplyDeleteDon't take my word for it because their other dishes could be good. Maybe I was unlucky and chose the wrong one. LOL about the sausages. Yes, there may be some truth in it, we can't tell what is in there >.<
DeleteAh, Belle Belle, what happened? Why so emo? Not happy about Kittie Kat or what? Did she keep whining and rubbing against you when she is emo?
ReplyDeleteShe has been very grumpy ever since Kittie Kat came along. Haiz!
DeleteI like the ambience of the Atas restaurant and the price of the set lunch seem quite reasonable too, but too bad the food didn't impressive.
ReplyDeleteI only tried one dish, so don't take my word for it. LOL!
DeleteI drove pass that restaurant many times and had no idea the ambience is really nice and class to my liking. Now you said the rice stodgy and won't go back again. I also dislike rice that's stodgy or mushy. Better eat porridge at the hospital. ๐ ๐
ReplyDeleteI always peeped into every pet store to admire the cats and dogs too. I would say a silent prayer that someone would take them home quickly.
I just met an old classmate living in Bangkok and has adopted strays like 10 cats and 7 dogs that includes 3 big Huskies dogs!!! He told me that many Thais are heartless and abandoned expensive dogs & cats when they have grown fed up or when the pets are too old to mate! So sad.
LOL! They may be better at cooking other dishes on the menu and not the Vindaloo that I had. So cannot judge just by that one meal. I always feel sad when I read about pets that are abandoned. It is so cruel.
DeleteI wonder why they went off course so much with this Indian Chicken Vindaloo dish as their restaurant has a 5.0 rating on Google (with a fair no. of 126 reviews). I've never seen a restaurant garnering a full 5-star rating so far (unless they're new with just a handful of reviews). Make me wonder if these reviews are for real! @_@ P/S: Ooo, I like this kitty far more than the other kitties you showed in your other post (so pretty the colour)! ;)
ReplyDeleteI could have been unlucky and chose the one dish that they did not do well.
DeleteAh, yes this kitty is indeed very pretty. So sweet looking and cute. But don't ask for the price. LOL!
