No Good

Yesterday, I thought I could tahan OMAD but cannot lah. Stomach hungry.

So I went to the food court at The Starling (where else, right?). I decided to go with the Small Bone and a spot of Chicken Feet


The uncle is familiar with me now and he did not ask me if I wanted rice.


I'm afraid that this was not good. The meat was tender but was hard (as in dry-ish) at certain spots. This tells me that the meat has been either refrigerated or frozen. Freshly cooked meat is not like that.


The chicken feet was worse - not fall off the bone tender (still chewy and tough) and it had an unpleasant smell. tried to eat but left a lot behind. Oh dear dear, this is not a good sign of things to come.


Sala has opened at the basement.


I don't know if I will eat here. They are vegan, the opposite of me hah..hah...


Next door to them, Shen Niu Beef Noodle House, will be opening soon. Now, this is more up my alley, without noodles of course. Hope they are good.


Meanwhile my Belle Belle is enjoying walking all over my computer table.


Aiyo Belle Belle! Don't show mommy your backside!


Well, when I first met her, I thought she was a boy and I called her Boy Boy until the vet told me otherwise. Maybe you can see why. LOL!

    Hope you have a much better dining experience next time. I feel you, the smell and texture of frozen meat when not cook properly. I don't like that either.

  3. I wonder if u order big bone, will the meat also be hard? Could it be they didn't have enough time to cook the meat longer. Once I went to buy braised pork trotter and the seller opened his pot lid and poked at the pork trotters and told me, nope, not soft yet so cannot sell to you. πŸ˜‚

    1. I don't mean hard as in tough. It was hard and dry as in cooked meat that was previously frozen or stayed in the fridge a few days.

    2. But frozen meat or those meat in the fridge for a few days when recooked will also be soft. If cooked in a pressure cooker, all frozen meat would be soft, no? Is the meat not recooked before serving to you? Was it not hot?

    3. Think cooked meat that has been in the fridge or freezer for a while, it dries out somehow (or freezer burn) and even when reheated, some part have dried out and that is the "hard" I was talking about.

    5. I am shocked that they would sell frozen cooked meat that has freezer burn cos that would mean the cooked meat would have been in the freezer for a long long time to experience freezer burn.

  6. If got smell, then sure to spoil the appetite. That is one of the reason, I try to cook chicken feet at home. Heehee... why this mommy showing everyone Belle's backside. Lol!

  7. I'm a bit confused here....isn't all meat that we eat refrigerated, chilled or frozen at one point (even your steaks come frozen, don't they?). Even the fresh meat we buy we would keep them frozen until we're ready to cook them. Unless you meant they used meat that has been frozen for a very long time. Your description scares me, I've not eaten chicken feet with an unpleasant smell, only not fall off the bone tender. Looks like this stall will soon be gone! >_<

    2. I may not have described properly. Cooked meat that has been in the fridge or freezer for a while tend to dry out or get freezer burn. So even when reheated, there will be parts especially the edges that get dry and a little desiccated. That was what I meant by "hard" as in hard and dry. Hope that clarifies.

      Oh, that clarifies it. I misread and was under the impression you meant frozen raw meat when you meant cooked meat frozen for too long. Keeping unsold cooked meat frozen to reheat and resell certainly doesn't bode well for them. It was either poor quality meat they started with or it was cooked meat kept too long. Sometimes my frozen raw meat is kept for months but it still taste good when cooked.
