Chicken No Good

What is it with me these days? This no good, that no good. Only my own cooking good is it? hah..hah..hah....

Today for lunch I went out to tapau poached chicken.

I requested for no sauce and no chili dip. So it was just poached chicken, neat. I sound like somebody. It was not good, it had a very strong chicken smell. Is it because there was no sauce to make it tastier? I would think that good fresh chicken should taste very good on its own.

I think I may have lost my taste for chicken. Don't know why but lately chicken does not taste that good anymore.

I found some old photos in my folder, from one of my partner's trips to Penang. I am uncertain if I had posted these before and if I did, my apologies.

Don't know what this is.

Mmmmmm...bittergourd.

This must be a fried tofu dish from the looks of it, topped with veggies and prawns.

I have been to this Goh Swee Kee Restaurant before a very long time ago I remember the food here is very good.

Well, this was what I had for dinner last evening. Pork chops topped with crispy fried shallots. What can I say? Crispy fried shallots made the already tasty pork chops even more delicious.

By the way, the fried shallots were still fresh and crispy. I think they will be finished by the end of the week.

  2. That day I bought roast chicken breast meat without any sauces and the chicken taste was so strong that I had to get a packet of fast food chili sauce sachets from the fridge to cover the chicken taste. Lolx!

  3. You're beginning to sound like me - everything is no good, the mere smell of something cooking in the kitchen would make me lose my appetite right away. I seem ok with anything bland, no smell, simple...no this, no that!

    1. Oh dear. You need to eat something that you love. I am sorry, I think your doctor is doing you a great disservice.

  4. Have you eaten the poached chicken you tapau before? If you had and it wasn't unpleasant, then the only explanation is you can't do without the soy sauce and chilli dip...they do make a world of difference. Even your pork chops are cooked in soy and butter which makes up some kind of sauce for your meats.

    1. Yes, I have eaten the chicken before. You are quite right, the soy sauce + shallot oil + sesame oil makes a lot of difference. No sauce made it too plain.

  5. It could be that we are so used to the soy sauce and chili dip with the poached chicken. If it is salted chicken, then it will be nice. But yes, it is true that some chicken has a strong smell and makes one lose appetite. I have experienced it myself even with the soy sauce and chili dip.

  6. Chicken with strong/unpleasant taste sound terrible, especially you have no sauce to mask the taste. But if I were you, I'll transform the chicken into other dishes, such as chicken porridge.
