A Sunday With No Food Delivery

Today I did not order any food delivery. Quite honestly, sometimes I find it quite sien to wait for the food to be delivered.

Once you tekan the order, you get a notification that your order is in the kitchen/accepted by the restaurant and an estimated delivery time is given. Then you wait.

I am one of those people when something is immediately pending, I can't focus on doing anything else. I hate to be interrupted while I am in the middle of a task. For instance, I am loading my laundry and suddenly DING DONG! I get very flustered. That's just me.

Sometimes there is no notification that the delivery is on the way. Maybe it is because the rider did not initiate the notification, I don't know.

Like the other day, the order status on ShopeeFood showed that the rider was still at the restaurant (10 minutes after the initial message). Next thing I knew BEEP BEEP! The guy was outside my gate.

Anyway. At Aeon I saw this.

A cardboard date palm hah..hah...

When you see loads of dates, you know that Ramadan is coming!

Medjool dates, my favorite!

I got this one.

And it so happened I had 4 strips of bacon leftover in the fridge.

It was perfect to make Devil on a Horseback.

Roasted in the oven at 180C for about 22 minutes.

It's a delicious and moreish snack. I love it.

So today, lunch was this funny looking sandwich.

Dinner is Mee Goreng which I defrosted and reheated. I also fried two eggs.

I will eat this later.

It's always very convenient to prepare ahead. I dislike having to slave in the kitchen more than once a day. Especially now with the blistering hot weather.

This is for dessert heh..heh...heh...

  1. I agree with you that the food delivery often took longer than expected. We had too many bad experience at the start of the MCO 2 years ago. Those days they had teething problems added on.

I love that bacon wrap and didn't know it's called Devil on a Horseback. I only ate them at Robataya Japanese restaurant at One-U.

    1. The worst part is after waiting and waiting, they cancel the order! Happened to me twice already.

There are many things that can be wrapped in bacon and roasted. I want to experiment!

  2. There was once that I didn't monitor my order closely and that rider delivered it to the wrong house. Nowadays when the app shows order has been picked up, I would type in the description of my house to the rider so the order would be delivered to the right house. So far only once the delivery was sent to the wrong house. I haven't eaten bacon wrapping dates before. Must be so delicious!

    1. Alamak! Did those people take your delivery? Or did they tell the rider it is not theirs and then the rider delivered to you?

    2. They accepted my delivery so they get free vegetables. Foodpanda refunded me the full amount after I reported it. Dunno who has to pay for this mistake. Foodpanda or rider.

    3. How unethical! If something not mine was delivered to me, I will tell the rider and not accept.

    4. I think maybe the person accepting the delivery thought someone else in the household ordered it.

  3. Dates!!! I've a post on them coming up, waiting in line to be published. I've bacon too in the freezer, maybe I can give this a try. Love the thick layers of luncheon meat in your sandwich...but I would prefer my eggs more runny.

    1. I prefer runny eggs too but it can be messy to eat.

  4. i dislike to wait for the rider too. Sometimes the rider texted me in the Foodpanda message app and i did not manage to check on time (was halfway doing my work/chores), and then the fella didn't bother to call and my order was just ignored. When i noticed the rider's message in the Foodpanda app, it is either they notified me to cancel order coz of various stupid reason 'motor rosak'/food spilled due to carelessness of rider/ 'went for prayer therefore not able to pick up food'/clarifying the address coz couldn't find my house....I was kinda frustrated coz all these issues can be solved within Foodpanda internally, why need me to cancel & reorder? Well, it is not the cancel & reordering that is taking my time, but also spending time to 'standby for dealing with their unprofessional work'. Many times for these cases that i encountered, the status is misleading as it shows 'on the way, rider has pick up food'...although the rider went missing in action.

    2. Hhhmmm, luckily I have not encountered these issues other than the deliver to wrong place. Grab also got cancel before due to meet with an accident which I sympathize with the rider of course. I must say in everything cannot be always bright and sunny all the time so I am still very satisfied with food delivery on all platforms.

  5. If I had your mee goreng, luncheon meat sandwich and bacon snack, I'd much rather eat those than order delivery! ;) Yeah, ShopeeFood app can be a bit lagging at times and I've experienced that BEEP BEEP (and it's not Road Runner) but the delivery rider at my door when I wasn't expecting it...lol. Anyway, soon we'll be giving back some love to GrabFood & FoodPanda now that ShopeeFood has further reduced their discounts (it's now RM2 for min. RM15, up from RM8, used to be even RM5 at one time or RM4 for RM25, up from RM20, used to be RM12 though the super deals are still around). Luckily, we can still buy their RM0.10 food pass, otherwise there isn't much of a discount to enjoy. Delivery vouchers are also getting less and I've noticed quite a few restaurants have raised their prices at the turn of the year too. So, with lower discounts and raised prices, food delivery now isn't as worth it as it used to be (compared to tapau if the eatery is near)...haiz. I guess ShopeeFood's strategy was to offer massive discounts to attract new users to their app (even to the point of maybe losing money) and now that they've 'hooked' us, they can 'withdraw' some of these 'privileges'.

I can see why you called your sandwich a funny looking sandwich. It's like you're making french toast but poured even more beaten egg into your pan before putting your egg-soaked bread on top to fry and then sandwich them in thick slices of luncheon meat....but I like your funny looking but loaded sandwich. P/S: I thought you'd be food prepping and freezing this week. ^_~

    1. LOL! Road Runner! I miss that cartoon :) Oh yes, I did notice the discounts reduction on ShopeeFood, I was too late to sign up to enjoy the better rates previously. But it's OK as I am still enjoying A&W RM12.50 discounts and free delivery hee..hee..hee..

I received a notification from GrabFood that next month's GrabUnlimited renewal is 1 sen only and the following month's renewal will be at RM4.90 (instead of RM7.90) hah..hah..hah... I think they are feeling the heat lah as more users are switching to other service providers. Competition is good!

Ah, that sandwich is from the viral Tik Tok Breakfast sandwich video which apparently was a craze some 2 years ago. I am slow to catch on and got it wrong. Will do a post on that when I have the time!

P/S : I have outsourced the food prepping and freezing to Georgina of Five & Two Foods wahahahahaha!!!

  6. Yes, I saw dates at the supermart I visited 2 days ago. I was tempted to buy but didn't. The dates wrapped with bacon look delicious. Now I want to buy the dates and some bacon. He he. Love your sandwich. Oh, I haven't thought of freezing mee goreng. Now I know it can be done.

    1. Try the dates and bacon, they are so good! Lots of food can be frozen and I love to cook and freeze. Can take out anytime to reheat and enjoy.

  7. I never buy any dates during Ramadan period but tasted before when having Ramadan buffet. I can't remember the taste but have you tried those dates that only appear during CNY, in swallow box one? Do they taste same?

  9. I love the convenience of food delivery but I hate all of the single-use packaging that goes with it. Every time I throw out a box I think of the tree that was cut down to make it, or the water and resources used to process it.

    1. Me too actually. Some use so many plastic containers for the various condiments/components and it is quite a pain to wash them and put aside for recycling.
