Lockdown Day #9 : Of Ghosts and Hauntings (Cerita Hantu)

Warning warning! Don't read this at night is you are a scaredy auntie like me. If you feel scared, look at the cute kitties.

This post is no doubt inspired by TM's spooky post. TM has many such hair raising stories that I look forwards to reading but he also posts things like his Nenek Kebayan Sewing Basket which made me choke on my coffee this morning.

Do you believe is ghosts and spirits? My late grandmother used to say, never say you don't believe because these beings will show you that they are real. Even the most hardcore non-believer (my late grandfather) had told many stories of his encounters with the unspoken.

As a matter of fact, I myself have had some scary experiences. The first and only time I wrote about it was here. Today I am going to share some more.

This kittie cat has a very comical face.
In fact I have a cousin who looks like this.
Luckily my relatives don't read my blog.

Where shall I start? Let's start from long ago when I was staying at a rented room. Those were my not-so-happy years when I had to take a bus at 6:30 am to go to work at a job I was very unhappy with.

One evening when I was in bed, I felt someone come lay beside me. Is that scary or what? Of course lah, right? You know what I did? Instead of jumping out of bed screaming, I edged myself against this "person" to push "him" (I sensed it was a male) off the bed. Wah, so brave you say? Well, I have a had a few of such disturbances that I became angry. Pissed at being kacau-ed.

I pushed and pushed until "he" fell off the bed. And this thing ran towards the bathroom and disappeared. It just passed through the bathroom door.

Another evening, I felt a presence and pressure against my face. I opened my eyes and I saw a formless black entity next to my bed. I couldn't move. It was as if I was paralyzed but somehow I stretched out my hand to catch it. Then it simply disappeared and the pressure that I felt, lifted.

Later on I had another disturbance. I sensed a presence in my room, just right beside my bed. Then I heard whispering. It was like this thing was whispering to me. This is real, OK. I was awake in my room, but my eyes were closed. I admit this time I was afraid.

Then I sensed it moving towards the bathroom and I peeked. I saw "someone" go into the bathroom. But this "someone" never came out.

I never mentioned any of this to my landlady. Simply because (1) she might dismiss this as silly (you were dreaming!) and (2) I did not want to spook her.

Aiyo...why so sad?

Many years ago I was in Kuala Terengganu when my grandfather was very ill and subsequently passed away. After the funeral, all of us went back to the house and we cousins all sat at the staircase.

Upstairs, I heard the bathroom door open, close and lock. Then I heard water splashing. It was as if someone was in the bathroom. My brother was with me and I casually mentioned to him that our uncle must be upstairs using the toilet. No, my brother said. Uncle is downstairs.

I saw my uncle and I couldn't believe my ears. So I went upstairs. The bathroom was empty. Not only that, the bathroom floor was dry. Not a drop of water. Then I checked the three rooms, all empty. My heart was beating very fast as I made my way downstairs. Yikes! Who was that upstairs?

Auwww...you are so cute........

A few days later (this was within 7 days of grandpa's passing) as I sat at in dining room with my mum and a few other people, I heard the sound of someone washing clothes upstairs (from the same bathroom). My late grandfather used to do the laundry upstairs in that bathroom. This time I dared not go upstairs to inspect.

When I got back to my parents house, one evening I had a fright. I was going to sleep, already lights off in the bedroom when I felt someone plonk down next to me. Apa lagi, I jumped up and switched on the light and left the light on the whole night. I told my mum about that incident and she reckoned that was my grandpa!

Auwww...you are so pweety!

Back track to many years prior, when I was studying at Assunta Secondary School, PJ, my family stayed at a rented house in Damansara Utama (looks like I am fated to be stuck at Damansara Utama. LOL!).

It was a double storey house with three bedrooms upstairs. We occupied two rooms, the master bedroom and a room which I shared with the older of my two younger brothers. Now, room number three (which shared an attached bathroom with the room I shared with my brother) was very spooky.

My mum used that room as to keep stuff and I never liked that room. I cannot stay inside that room for long because it gave me the creeps. I had a study table in my room and my back faced the bathroom. Sometimes, I would have to look behind me just to check. Get what I mean?

By the way, my grandma was terrified of cats.
That's another story for another time.

Then something manifested on an evening when we were about to go out. I was using the bathroom and as I was coming out, boom! The toilet light bulb exploded. You might say that was something electrical but I reckon it was something else.

This exploding light bulb thing happened again but not in that house. It was at my grandparents' house where my brother and I had to share a room. This room was called the middle room because it was between the master bedroom at the front and the back room.

In this room there were two beds, one of which my late great grandmother died on. I don't know which bed I slept on and what made this (haunted) room even more spooky was that it was lighted with a hanging light bulb. Then one night, the light bulb exploded. I can't remember if my brother and I slept in that room again. Shudders!

Now let me tell you my late grandma's experience, the one which made her say "never say you don't believe". My grandma told me that her father never talked about ghosts and never tried to scare his children with ghost stories. So grandma grew up not believing in such things.

This incident happened when my mum and her siblings were still young. At the time they were staying at the hospital quarters because my grandpa worked at the hospital.

One evening my grandpa wanted to take the family to the cinema. But grandma did not want to go along. So grandpa asked her, won't you be afraid to stay alone? Grandma was like hah..hah.. scared of what?

I wanted to kidnap this kittie.

So everyone left for the cinema and grandma stayed on her own, happily sewing away in her room. Then later in evening there was a loud BANG!

Water splashed from the ceiling and what was amazing according to grandma was that the water that splashed on the floor were all in pools of perfect circles. If I remember correctly, she said she went to sit outside the house to wait for my grandpa and the kids to come home (my mum might correct me when she reads this). That incident made grandma believe.

My cousin's look-alike again.

Opps it is almost 5:00 pm now. That is my cut-off time for spooky stories and I never watch scary movies beyond this time. I actually have more stories and I'll save that for another post.

By the way, do you want to read about my school days? If you want, I'll show you some photos too heh..heh.. If I receive at least 20 comments to the affirmative, I will publish. If not, it shall remain in draft until I am 80 years old (if I live that long).

  1. I want! I want! I want to see all your old sexy photos while it is still hot. I might vomit when you publish them at 80. Muahahahaha I will spam over 20 comments here if it doesn't show 20 by tomorrow.

I salute you for compiling so many short spooky tales in one post. I am so long winded and so difficult to churn out just one post. I believe everything you said and my mind was running back & forth some relevant and similar stories as yours. I am very sure you have the strong senses on your "hearing and feeling" towards the spiritual presence. There is no doubt that you were sure of their presence as they would communicate & sync with your strong senses. The only time a spirit sat on my bed was just 2 years ago. It was near sunrise and I felt her presence heavily with warm blankets being pushed to cover me. She patted me softly and said to sleep well. My tears rolled out so much but I could not open my eyes as I knew the spirit would be gone. Finally she left and I opened my wet eyes. I knew my late mother came to see me.

  7. Ok, now it is morning and I have read all your stories. Yes, I would like to read about your school days and also about how you studied science in uni but now works as an accountant. Please tell your career story too, thank you. I don't have heightened senses like you and TM but when I was young, I did have moments of unable to move when I was laying on my bed and hearing whispering and whispering but later I read that it is just sleep paralysis. Do keep writing these stories, thank you.

    1. i encountered such sleep paralysis many times when i was in schooling days...and that was because i was too exhausted with school activities and homework....I can't move and can't breathe like 'something' blocking my respiratory when lying down getting to sleep.

  9. Wah, we have another bona fide ghost story teller...other than TM! Interesting. Ok, give him some competition to see whose ghost stories are spookier! LOL. I actually read your ghost stories last night and it did spook me when I went to sleep (dare not comment until this morning...haha!). Oh my, after reading your encounters, you're no scaredy-cat (compared to me). You can open your eyes to see what they were, peeked to see where they went...and even pushed them off your bed....wah, so brave-lah you! >_< If it was me, I would be frozen stiff and too scared to move or open my eyes. They say only people with a certain "aura" will be able to see these "beings" and I thank my lucky stars I'm not one of those with such "gifts" as some would call it or a "curse" to others depending how you see it. P/S 1: Rented places (+ hotel rooms) always have spooky tales to tell within their walls (you don't know who have stayed or died there)! That's why I never want to stay in hotel rooms by myself. O_o

P/S 2: I like the orange kitty the best...it's the cutest one to me! ;)

P/S 3: If reading about your school days means showing us photos of you in school uniform, then I'm all for it...lol. I don't think I can find photos of myself dating back so far. They seemed to have gone missing, misplaced or lost (during house moving). As to your stories from your school days, share only if you want to and if it doesn't infringe your privacy.

    1. As I get older, I become braver. My late grandpa always told me that we are "stronger" than those beings and they should be afraid of us instead! But it really depends on one's energy level and state of mind. I will have to leave the explanations to the expert - TM!

Ah, the orange kitty in the last photo. Well, I have a thing for orange kitties hee..hee..

Yup, photos of me in school uniform and you guys won't even be able to tell which one is me! LOL!

  10. Wow PH! First time I read your ghost stories and later I will read another one with the link you have given. Yes, you were very brave la, the one you pushed till he dropped on the floor.. Kudos to you!! I notice that you mentioned Bathroom many times in your post here, so Bathroom must be the most scary place... last time when I was young, I also detest going to the bathroom at night, with dim lights and sometimes not working, I can relate that bathrooms are not a nice place to go... especially in hotels nowadays.

    1. I became brave over the years. When I was younger, I was sacred like hell. LOL! Dark places usually got those things. And they say, hospitals got a lot!

  11. So scary, you are so brave. Do you have yin yang eyes. I had a similar experience too when my grandma passed away. After her funeral we slept and stayed over at her house. During the first seven days of her passing, one night I woke up from my sleep, I saw my grandma lying besides our bed, that time I did not suspect anything as I was so sleepy and it did not occur to me that I should feel scare.

I would to hear about your romance stories and see your young sexy photos. You must look fair and beautiful as I saw your fair legs wearing the slippers.

    1. Since it was your grandma, you did not feel scared. During the first 7 days, they will come home to visit loved ones.

LOL! No sexy photos lah. I was already auntie at that time wahahahaha!!!

  12. I want I want!
OMG, you were so brave that time until you dare to "force" "that thing" fell off the bed. The one you opened eyes to see which you sensed was very near you, I'm speechless and goosebumps ran over my whole body~~~
