Covid-19 MCO : Day #81 (Our First Restaurant Dine In)

Yes! Last night was Friday night, our date nite hee..hee... And guess what? My partner suggested why not we eat out?

Since many restaurants have opened for dine in, we visited Restoran Yok Tho Hing@Damansara Uptown only to find out that they have changed name to Yu Tao Xuan Restaurant.

The setup is still the same and we saw one or two familiar faces.

The server (one of the familiar faces) informed us that the food is the same. From the menu it appears to be so, only less choices compared to before.

The boss recommended their Penang Char Koay Teow saying that it is their best seller but we were in the mood for dishes. But we will come back for the CKT.

I found something funny on the menu.

Douchebag Fried Mee. hah..hah... apa tu?

All these chilies are mine.

After looking at the menu, I just selected the usual which we have not had for a long time.

Sweet & Sour Pork, my favorite. It was very good.

Honey Ginger Chicken, which unfortunately was a bad choice because the chicken was not fresh. It had a smell. Ugh!

My partner prefers to start when all the dishes are on the table.

The Claypot Tofu was nice, all bubbling and hot.

Wait for the last dish.

The Four Variety Vegetable, plain.

So there you have it, our usual four dishes for two. The dining experience was pleasant as there were not many customers and tables were well spaced out.

The only disappointment and cause for concern when eating out at this time is freshness of ingredients. Case in point was the chicken. It must have been in the freezer since the start of the MCO (or even before).

At the end of the meal, we both felt so stuffed. Previously, this was just nice for us. I guess at home we don't eat as much and our stomachs adjusted after close to 3 months. Perhaps we should limit ourselves to only 3 dishes from now on, our new normal hah...hah....

Earlier that day, I went out in search of my favorite coffee.

Eh? Where is my favorite coffee? No more? Who has been buying my Moccona Coffee? heh..heh..

On the way back to office I saw that Gepuk Ayam Berempah has closed shop.

  1. Why the change in name? I ate out this morning as I had to go out for something, nobody in the shop but I was not comfortable with it. I would rather eat at home but tapao-ing, the food will not look nice. :(
Yes, I saw one shop, one of our favourites, owned by West Malaysian Indian guy - CLOSED, shop sign removed.

    1. Btw, what's a douchebag fried mee? Any photo? Is it what I call egg purse noodles? Blogpost on that coming soon!

    2. Changed management and I gather that the new owner wants a new name. Oh dear, one of your favorites is no more. So sad.

  2. This Gepuk Ayam Berempah is so spacious, it'll be good for social distancing and meeting SOPs but, alas, it has closed. Probably people can't take the crazy spiciness...it's not for everyone! >_<

Rather surprised to see that your partner agreed to dining out sooner than expected (before 9 June...lol) when he was first even apprehensive about eating outside food. That's good...but I'm not sure when my confidence will return. I've waited so long, I might as well wait out a few more days and see what happens on 9 June...hee..hee.

I got my sweet sour pork fix recently when my husband went out to a tai chow place and tapau dishes to eat at home. For the chicken to smell after it's been deep fried and cooked with ginger means the chicken is really not fresh. Hope you didn't get an upset stomach (I would have). You should have returned the dish to the kitchen. It's very difficult to eat the four variety vegetable without them being fried with belacan. My family, they 'attack' as soon as the first dish appears (food waits for no-one..lol!). That's why you seldom see me with a snapshot of all the food on the table.

    1. He surprised me too because he was the one who was not in favor of outside food. Maybe he is tired of his/my cooking hee..hee... I was apprehensive at first but it was all right. In fact we dined out again last night hee..hee..

No tummy troubles for me and surprisingly my partner as he is the one with the weaker tummy. Yeah, I suppose we should have returned the dish. We had the four variety plain because my partner can't tolerate spicy dishes. hah..hah..food should be attacked as soon as they reach the table but with my "new normal" after starting blogging, everybody has to hold their horses until I snap a pic or two :d

  4. I am very scared of the chicken taste. So if it is not fresh, the chicken taste would be unbearable so I guess that dish wasn't finished, right? U both left it cos it doesn't taste nice.

    1. Business was not that good and I felt that their dishes were too simple and not enough variety.

  7. So good to be able to dine out rather than eating at home right?? So far I only go out for breakfast. Prefer that as lesser people.

  9. Must be tm who bought all your fav coffee. My favourite would be the sweet and sour pork. All dishes are a lot for just two persons. Usually when only me and my mom dine out we wld order two or at most three dishes.
