You know what? I would not have known or bothered about this ice cream (in fact I have never had a Magnum ice cream prior to this. Sumpah!) had I not read about it from my fellow bloggers' post.
The first time I read about it was from Mun's blog. From her review, I was only keen on the Magnum Macadamia Salted Caramel. The Magnum Cherry Blossoms? Not at all. I don't like to eat anything with flower-flower smell. Rose syrup? No, thank you. Lavender? Even worse.
And then Kris wrote about it pulak. And that was it. I had to try it (see how bad it is) and find out for myself what I think of this ice cream flavor.
So. I went to Jaya Grocer and bought not just the Cherry Blossoms but also the Almond, Classic and White Almond wahahahaha!!! But sadly don't have the Macadamia Salted Caramel.

Back home, I stashed the whole lot in the freezer. After my shower I sat down on my sofa to begin testing. But first, dinner.
Pasta with meat (beef) sauce. So delicious. Better than the Italian version heh..heh... It is my mum's recipe. Want? If want I will share the recipe.
After my main meal, it was time to test my dessert.
I tore off the wrapper and was greeted by a very pretty in pink ice cream.
I took a sniff but did not register much aroma. Maybe because it is frozen and the chemicals were latent.
I took a tentative bite of the coating.
Shweet...so shweet...but not so sweet that I was put off by it. Again, because it was frozen, the cold muted the sweetness. Taste like how, eh? Perfumey, flowery like that. One Youtuber described it as "macam bedak sejuk zaman dulu-dulu" hah...hah....
I tasted the cherry pieces that were studded on the casing and they had a sourish taste.
Then I took a bigger bite to taste the ice cream. I found the ice cream very creamy with milky undertones. And yes, that perfumy floral aroma was cloying. The ice cream was not as sweet as the pink chocolate casing (maybe the sweetness of the casing made my tongue less sensitive).
The cherry sauce was not particularly outstanding. It just tasted errr..I don't know how to describe it. Some say it is has a medicinal/herbal taste but I can't put a finger on what it is to my tastebuds.
Honestly, I neither liked nor disliked this flavor. It is one of those things that just leaves me with no conclusive opinion. All I know is, it is not a flavor that I care to have again. Just leave the flowers for perfumes, soaps and air fresheners, not ice cream. Why not a strawberry or cherry ice cream studded with berries? That would be nice.
Meanwhile, as I was taste testing the ice cream, my cat was going through her staircase drama even though I had let her out past 7pm and enforced her curfew only sometime past 8pm.
At least the whining was not as bad as before. But still, naughty Girl!

Macadamia Salted Caramel is my favourite! My girl asked me to look out for this one - yet to see it here but looking at all the reviews, I think I shall just buy one to let her try. Jangan tak cuba! Reviewing the Kit Kat one in my blog tomorrow.

DeleteI kind of like this Sakura magnum because the cherries pieces inside reminds me of Choya Umeshu wine. I like the sourish bits and don't find the taste to be floral or flowery.

DeleteI think eating it frozen vs melting makes a difference to the sweetness level. Frozen is not that sweet. Melting is super sweet. But then everyone has different tastebud.

DeleteI just read ewew aka Kris review. Alamak so sayang, she threw it away!😲😱🤦but ok la, better than finish it and feel sicken by it. After u read her review u still dare to try it! But eating it frozen is different from eating it melting. If prefer melting better to eat sundae or soft serve. This magnum is best eaten frozen. The magnum ingredients say cherry n not cherry blossoms. But I have eaten real Sakura petals when in Japan n they taste ok. Hahahaha, better don't believe me because my taste bud may be in the weird category.

DeleteI think I like this Sakura magnum ice cream because it reminds me of the taste of Japan Choya Umeshu ume (plum) liquer. Do you like liquer? If you do, can try Choya Umeshu. The dried bits in the coating of this ice cream reminds me of the real plum soaking in the bottle of Choya Umeshu liquer. Good that you tried and finished the whole stick. After I ate this Sakura magnum, I continue to eat the Macadamia Salted magnum so u can believe me when I say to me the Sakura magnum wasn't that sweet. Lolx!

DeleteI don't like food to be sweet in general. But for flavours that are nice and frozen, I don't feel the sweetness because the nice flavours distracted me, I guess. Some sweet ice cream with terrible flavours I also cannot tahan. Especially those that can only taste the sweetness without any flavours.
Deletei keep forgetting to visit a 7-11 to check out these new flavours. hopefully they won't be gone by the time i get to one, since all of you are buying them, heheh! :D baskin-robbins' current promotional flavour is strawberry rose, which is also a bit floral, but the rose ice cream is quite mild and the fruity strawberry ribbon is dominant :)
