Delicious Dakgalbi at Sopoong

I have been to Sopoong@The Starling once in 2017 and again in 2018. On both visits, I found the food average which explains why I returned only once a year.

But one day I was craving for Dakgalbi, thanks to a Maangchi video that I watched recently. This dish is marinated chicken cooked with vegetables. I have had this at Sopoong before, though it did not blow me away.

So one weekday, I paid a visit.

It was quiet and I saw the Korean boss sitting all by himself.

The Dakgalbi was better than I remembered but they were still stingy with the chicken like before. It was a generous serving  with lots of vegetables and glass noodles. Can easily be shared by two small eaters.

Then I had another Dakgalbi craving on a working Saturday.

So I returned. I walked in at almost 12:30pm and the place started filling up quickly.

This time I ordered a drink, the Korean Citron Tea.

It was sweet and refreshing.

The banchan here is not exciting. The kimchi was ripe and sour as it should be which reminded me of why I dislike kimchi.

The Dakgalbi was another story. It was particularly good that day. So so good. The flavors were spot on. Just like the one I had in Ampang many, many years ago.

Best of all, I found many chunks of chicken inside, a vast improvement from before.

One of the things I love in Dakgalbi is the rice cakes. This time it was tender and tasty.

I added rice into the pan.

And gave it a good stir to soak up all the lovely gravy. So sedap I tell you!

See. Boh liau. I hope that they can keep the standard like this. Then I will come back more often. Not just once a year hah...hah....

  2. Gosh!!! I'm like Rose and the thing is my missus has been cooking all kinds of dishes with kim chi or something that tastes like it these days and of course, she and the daughter enjoy those so much. If this goes on any longer, I think I will start losing weight... Sobssss!!!!

  3. I dislike kimchi too. If I am the boss, I will be very happy to see all the dishes "boh liau" or wiped clean!

  6. My sister took me for Korean food, taught me how to order this and that.. initially I did not really like the sweetness with the rice but now I am learning to enjoy eating them. In time to come, I will be a great fan of Korean food!

  10. I agree that they have something lacking that stopped me after 3 visits. The banchan always looked sad and the cooking tastes were not up to my expectations but you ate until boh liao!!! Aunty must be hungry!
