Taiwan Spicy Noodles

One afternoon, I was feeling hungry and made my way to A Foodies Nest@The Starling for an early dinner. I was wondering what to eat.

Surely not chee yuk fan again. Must give chance to the other kiosks, right? So I took a walk around the kiosks and stopped at Taiwan Spicy Noodle House.

I have tried Taiwanese food here and did not really like it but why not give it another chance. After looking at the menu I settled on the dry spicy noodles with pork chops.

While waiting for my food, I looked around.

Annie-1 used to be on the left kiosk next to Judy's.

It looks like Annie-1 has called it a day at the food court. They don't need this kiosk as their flagship shop is still doing roaring business.

I think regulars like myself would prefer to visit the main shop where you have more choices and drink their nice Ipoh White Coffee.

KOM's used to be on the left and JE Seafood Noodle
is set to replace what used to be Oyster King.
KOM's By Kompassion and Oyster King have also given up. Overall I would say that this food court is not doing that well. Some kiosks are failing and I can understand why as you shall see when my food was ready.

Now let's get on with my spicy noodles. You can choose the level of spiciness for the noodles and I went for medium.

There is a lot of crispy, crunchy stuff sprinkled on the noodles and unfortunately it is neither fried onions nor garlic nor chee yau char. I disliked it as it was all crunch, no taste.

There was not much flavor in the noodles as well. They were a barely spicy (perhaps medium is too mild) and clumpy in parts.

As for the pork chop...

.... the texture was like fish paste, meaning this piece of pork chop is processed.

I also disliked it.

The chili oil was not exciting at all and I had to dip the pork chop pieces in chili sauce to make it easier to eat. The soup? Nothing to shout about.

This kiosk is run entirely by foreigners (not Taiwanese hah..hah...) and I am certain I won't be coming back.

  1. I spent a week in Taiwan but still feel that there is much to discover about their cuisine.

  2. When you let your stall run by foreigners, it's the death of you! :O I wonder what's wrong with this food court since even reputable names (like Annie 1 & Kom) can't make it. Don't they abide by the same rules and put out the same good food? Actually, clean, comfortable and modern food courts like these should do well (look at Malaysia Boleh!...you'll see why when you read my next post on them). I think the high prices are a deterrent (judging from what you had at Champ's).

    1. The only stall worth visiting is Champ's but yes, they are pricey. Overall business at the food court is lagging and I wonder if more stalls will shut down. Most of the stalls are run by foreigners (except Champ's and Judy's). That I believe affects the taste and quality of food. It's a pity.

  8. Oh? So you did not like it, eh? Once we had a stall here selling Taiwan pork rice - rice with one slab of braised pork belly with greens by the side. We liked it a lot but unfortunately, the shop did not last very long - I heard the boss was a gambler, gambled all his fortune away. Sad.

    1. Got shoppers but somehow they are not flocking to the foodcourt. Quite pricey and food tak sedap.
