For the past few weeks, my partner and I have been having our lunch (or rather, brunch) at Restoran 134@Taman Megah.
This restaurant serves chap fan (mixed rice) and was introduced to me by my brother. In fact I had my first taste of the chap fan when my brother kindly packed dinner for me during one of our hospital visits to see our dad.
Look what he got me.
He knows his sister all right. One box is not enough.

And the piece de resistance - the crispy pork skin, which he had been telling me about.
I loved it of course and it was still crispy when I took it home.
My partner and I came to eat here because one Sunday at Aeon, we discovered that our regular pork shop had closed down. Since they have a branch (their original outlet) at Taman Megah, we headed there after our grocery run.
Since we were in Taman Megah and my partner was hungry, he suggested that we have lunch at Restoran 134 as I had mentioned this place to him.

So that was how we started having our Sunday lunch dates here.

Besides, it is very convenient since I can go home and get on with my weekend cooking without having to worry about lunch.
I have read reviews complaining that it is expensive. The meals for both of us are slightly below RM20 which averages something like RM9+ per person.
I think it is OK considering the variety and quality of the food and the clean and neat environment. We do have to think of their overheads and you can't expect a place like this to charge coffee shop prices.
When you eat in, you get a free soup and drink. My partner and I share the soup and drink.
So far we are quite happy having our meals here.

I love chap fan too! I like to banjir my rice with curry chap too.

ReplyDeleteEconomy rice shop nowadays look modern and bright, so they can charge more expensive, haha!
They appear to be skin to me, dunno. Very thin and crispy. Maybe I am mistaken. This chap fan place high class a bit hee..hee...
DeleteRM9+ is cheap - your servings are big, not the usual tablespoon size they will give you at some places...and the food is not nice even, oily and msg overload.

DeleteI think RM9 for chap fan is quite common even in old type coffee shops especially if I take a piece of fish. The last time I ate chap fan without any rice is one month ago and it costs me RM 10.80 for 2 plates of chap fan with 2 veges and 1 meat/egg but of course the portion of each dish that we take is much much lesser than the portions shown in your photos.

DeleteHi Phong Hong, how's your Dad? The restaurant looks clean and not overcrowded. You must have felt touched that your brother tapau food for you during your visit to your Dad at the hospital. At least you know someone do care that you may be hungry. Only my hubby will do that when I took care of my MIL at the hospital.

DeleteI also thought the pork skin looked like crispy pork belly in some kind of sweetish marmite sauce. RM9 - RM10 for a plate of chap fan in that environment (not coffee shop-style) is reasonable. Hey, you even get those cafe-style chairs...kekeke! ;D Nowadays, chap fan in not-so-clean and humid coffee shops easily costs RM7 - RM8 already.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I like those chairs. So cute :) I think at this price it is quite worth it as we can't cook so many dishes at home. Besides, I like walking off without having to wash plates hee..hee...

ReplyDeleteSo much dishes. My man's style. Take till can see the rice. I usually take one veggie and one meat. Sometime I add another dish either veggie or meat, depends on what I desire.
The dishes here are good and tasty. Yup, we really pile it on LOL!
DeleteI m so hungry now.....yea, I tink this sort of chap fan stall is quite popular nowadays. In my neighborhood there is one '126 mixed rice' that adapts the same concept, even the interior looks almost the same...*maybe same owner gua...

DeleteEvery plate looks good and delicious to me. We have chap fan shops here but after a while the quality starts to drop.
