After Mission Impossible : Red Lobster

Last Saturday my brother and I had a movie date. Mission Impossible - Fallout. We usually eat first and then catch a movie but our favorite seats were taken for the earlier show.

So after 2 hours and 27 minutes of action (with the air-conditioner going full blast), we were very hungry and raring to go.

The movie was entertaining by the way. Tom Cruise was jumping between buildings, climbing up a helicopter and scaling a mountain (in between fights and motorcycle chases). He deserves a big carb loaded meal heh..heh...

After our first visit to Red Lobster, I took the survey at the link provided at the bottom of the receipt and got me a RM15.00 rebate for my next visit.  Since we had a relatively good experience, it was time for a revisit.

After checking the menu prior to our visit, I selected one of the Signature Trios while my brother picked the Bar Harbor Lobster Bake. While waiting for our food to be served, we enjoyed our coffee.

Lately I am obsessed with coffee cups thanks to a certain someone. So here I am testing the cup handle and it passed the test.

We were served these two miserable looking biscuits which did not taste as fresh as the ones we had on our first visit. But we would soon realize that these biscuits were insignificant compared to what we were about to feast on.

Ah! Look at that. We did not expect the platter to be huge. This is definitely one for sharing. It's the trio of Battered Fish Fillet, Shrimp and Grilled Squid.

I don't know what fish this is but it was definitely not dory. Quite a generous piece, very nicely battered and fried and I enjoyed it.

Between the fried shrimps and grilled squid, the squid won hands down. Perfectly grilled, it was very tender, none of that rubbery texture that you get at certain places.

The condiments that came with the meal were tartar sauce, sweet chili sauce and another chili sauce that tasted almost similar to the one you get with chicken rice.

The other accompaniments of roasted vegetables and rice, I'm afraid, was a major fail. The vegetables were dry and tasteless and the rice was bland. We left these practically untouched. I know, it's wasteful but we just could not eat.

Now this Bar Harbor Lobster Bake, was the piece de resistance. A very hefty serving, good for two or even three (small eaters) to share.

It was loaded with goodies - two lobster tails, loads of shrimp, scallops and mussels amid a generous serving of linguine tossed in garlic butter.

I have to admit that I found the garlic butter a bit overwhelming for me. My brother however was delighted and had the lion's share of the pasta.

But in spite of my misgivings, I had a second helping. The pasta was very good actually and I could get used to garlic butter.

They were certainly generous with the butter. All the seafood in this dish were fresh and superb.

What we had was definitely a lot, perhaps too much for two persons but you know us. Almost everything was polished (I did pack some of the fish, shrimp and squid in my container) and yet we still had room for dessert hee..hee...

The Chocolate Lava Cookie, a warm soft cookie with molten chocolate center, topped with a scoop of ice cream.

Nice....nice.....

Total damage.....

Judging by the fresh seafood and satisfaction we experienced, I'll say it was worth it.

  4. Haha, before you even put your fingers through, I know there'd be no problem coz this cup handle is much rounded! ;) Since I've made you a bit obsessed with coffee cups now, let me throw one more in. I dislike cups like these with a very thick rim, it makes it more difficult to drink from...hehehe (btw, this cup is so small for a long black, more like an espresso cup!).

Wah, after abstaining from carbs all week, I see you went all out with a carb-loaded meal...I see rice, I see chips, I see pasta (this meal can feed a family of four)...wuahahahaha ! :D Glad you enjoyed your meal but trip advisor's reviews were pretty negative (it seems they pale in comparison to the US ones). I like most of what I see but the prawns look like the frozen, translucent, overly crunchy type that I don't really like. I see that you do enjoy a seafood meal but noticed you hardly ever cook seafood at home (which will be much cheaper).

    1. hee..hee...hee... eh, I also don't like thick rims. The coffee will tend to spill down the sides after you have taken a sip.

Yup, I took the liberty of enjoying my carbs that day. The restaurant was not busy at all, only three other tables occupied. So maybe the novelty has worn off and not many are visiting. You are right, I hardly cook seafood at home :)

  5. I like everything that you had. Yum yum.

Haven't catch that movie yet. Not a big fan of Tom Cruise, so maybe will buy DVD and watch at home.

  13. I actually love watching movies at MBO as their air conds at night are freezing! I love the cold temperature like going to Korea for my Winter Sonata retreat again. My wife hates their cinema aorconds unless they could make it warmer. I must go and watch Tom Cruise this weekend!

I love that generous portion of the trio platter. I could enjoy 3 types of seafood whether it was Dory or not. Garlic butter is my favourite and I could scoop it from the tub to eat & lick.
