Closed At Lunchtime. Haiz!

I was at home (sick) yesterday and at around 1:00pm I was hungry. Nope I was not cooking and nope I did not prep any food during the weekend. And nope, I didn't even have any raw materials to throw together to make lunch.

So I took my phone and thought I would order something from ShopeeFood (and utilize the discount vouchers). Guess what?
Every eatery that I saved in the app were closed.
What??? It's lunchtime! Adoi!

So what choice did I have? (No. I don't have FoodPanda, perhaps I should install the app).

Strangely whoever was closed on ShopeeFood was open on GrabFood. Why, ah?
OK. I have no choice lah.

The Naked Lunchbox it was. Free delivery, the only benefit that I have right now.

The 8 Herb Roasted Chicken & Gravy was super delicious. The chicken was so tender and moist and so well marinated.

I also got a Beef Steak & Mushroom Pie for later.

The pie crust was very nice, very light and flaky. But I did not like the filling because it tasted too buttery. I think they used butter to saute the ingredients. So I won't order the pie again, a pity that I don't like strong butter taste which some people appreciate.

So it looks like ShopeeFood is a bit of a let down (for me) sometimes. I don't have issues so far during (early) dinner time. Haiz!

  1. Yeah, I tried to order lunch yesterday too. I think their system crashed! :O It was like that at 11.30am when I first locked in. It was Japanese week but when I viewed the restaurants taking part, all of them were "greyed". I then told myself that maybe Shopee was having a Japanese week but the Japanese restaurants didn't want to take part in giving discounts. Then when I locked in again at lunch time, all the restaurants were also like that. That's when I realised something was amiss as it's not possible for every single restaurant to be closed or busy. It was like that for quite some time (it 'recovered' at 3pm when I locked in then, not sure if it came back on earlier).

I confirmed ShopeeFood's app downtime yesterday when I ordered dinner. I asked the rider and he confirmed it. He says it was for such a long time that he couldn't do any orders, so he went home to sleep...adoi...lol! :D

I think you have to excuse ShopeeFood because of the sheer volume they're handling. This also happens to their shopping platform. When it comes to those 1.1, 2.2 or 3.3 sale, it's also very difficult to make a purchase as the system tends to go haywire. Based on the sheer volume of business, it's time they upgrade their system. Their real-time delivery status (when rider is enroute to you) is also screwed up. Sometimes you see them far away and the next moment they're at the door. When you experience the rider being at a different place from your address previously, my son encountered that before too. He says they pinned his address wrongly, so he went in to edit to move the pin (don't ask me how).

    1. I see!!! Yes, they seriously need a system upgrade because I am losing my patience with them. It's quite slow to load most times and I find that even on other occasions, those restaurants that I wanted to order from were closed (though not all, unlike that day) but they were open on GrabFood. Now when the system can't find my location, I will manually select from my saved locations. Then I click on the address again just to make sure the location is pinned correctly. Many times, select Bandar Utama, but they pin Damansara Utama LOL! So far the only restaurant that they don't let me down is A&W TTDI wahahaha!!

  3. Sometimes when the shops think they cannot handle delivery, they will put themselves as closed on the app. I encountered it in both grabfood n Foodpanda apps. So I always place my order in non peak hours. I think I would love the beef pie but it depends on the type of butter that they use. Sometimes the butter used have an additional fragrance which I don't like. Good to read from your comment in your previous post that you are feeling better now. Please take good care. Stay safe and healthy! 🙏

    1. Yes, very wise to order during non-peak hours. I don't eat so early now and I wanted to eat the food immediately after delivery, hence order later. I am lots better now, thanks!

  4. Hope you are better now....weather is super hot and can get sick easily. I would usually order my food during non-peak hours as to avoid 'unavailability'.

    1. I am much better now, thanks! Yes, so very hot and dry now. The rain has gone and I miss it. Yes, it is always better to order early but these days I eat a bit later.

  5. I would love to try that pie - they do use butter a lot to sautee food in western cuisine. I haven't been feeling too well either, not much appetite.

    1. If you don't mind food cooked in butter, then you will enjoy this pie. Hope you will recover soon. Me, even when unwell, the appetite is still good. LOL!

  6. There was some issue with Shopee the other day. I had the same experience as you, all closed. Opened Grab, see same store okay je? Safe to say, I did not order anything that day

  7. The skin of the 8 Herb Roasted Chicken looked crinkled (means moisten & soggy), would you eat them or discard? For me, I would feel disappointed when I saw my roasted chicken with skin like that, but understand that we must lower our expectation towards food sent via delivery. :(

    1. I ate the skin although no longer crispy. I think it becomes soft due to being transported in a closed box, so there is condensation. Definitely will be better if can eat straight out from the oven.
