No Cookies

Well, it looks like I am housebound this Chinese New Year (CNY). Although I am somewhat recovered (80% recovery by my own assessment) from the herniated disc, I have to rest and not do anything to stress my back.

With this condition, I cannot bake cookies. What a bummer. But never mind lah. Perhaps this is God's way of giving me a relaxing CNY. I can absolve myself from the usual obligations and simply LEPAK to my heart's content heh..heh... Must think positive mah....

So how are you doing? Those of you celebrating the festivities must be quite busy running here and there getting supplies, delivering gifts and perhaps baking and cooking up a storm. Not to mention going for pre-CNY makan and all.

My auntie in NZ has been baking.

Look at that, kueh ros

Peanut cookies.

Pineapple tarts. Don't ask me why they look like that.

Her kueh bangkit, unfortunately according to her, were a failure. Knowing my auntie, she will try and try again until she gets it right.

The only thing resembling CNY in my house are these. Oh yes, my brother (who ran away to Kuala Terengganu without telling me) also gave me bak kwa which I have stashed in the freezer so that they last longer.

My other brother dropped by today to give me a box of oranges (including a box for our younger brother) and a packet of large frozen prawns (ooohh..la...la....). I had nothing to give him except for a couple of packets of cashew nuts, almonds and a bottle of macadamia nuts.

Yesterday's lunch was kimchi soup.

I had the same thing for dinner, all the while thinking of this.

This was the Sumo Chicken Pizza from US Pizza via Grabfood which I had some two weeks ago. Prior to that I had another pizza which I can't remember the name.

Siap letak chilli sauce.

Meanwhile my two cats are keeping me company.

Belle Belle has been good and comes home on time.

Girl is up to her usual antics.

I really want to eat pizza. Haiz...

  1. I went and bought peanut cookies and pineapple whatever from my neighbourhood bakery and they look exactly like your NZ aunt's or more or less, at least. Taste great, no regret buying. My missus made two types, blogpost on those coming soon, no cakes this year - I'm on a low sugar diet. I do not have bangkit this year either, they are not selling them at Payung. I heard every year they made a loss - of course lah! They kept giving to friends free all the time!

Your pizza looked so good before you added the chili sauce. LOL!!!

    1. I have no CNY goodies at all in my house except for nuts that I bought online. I am watching what I eat, I have to lose the lockdown weight. LOL!

  2. Rather simple and minimize on our cny preparation. Luckily we got gifts from people too so save a lot on goodies and cookies. Hehe.

    1. Lucky you! I only have oranges, nuts and bak kwa. I should not put on weight this CNY. LOL!

  3. Looking on the positive side, you get to relax and take things easy. I bought some CNY snacks. I fried ngaku and made bak kwa. Since my boys are back, I will be cooking 2 main meals per day. Can't afford to be lazy.

  4. Good that your brother ran away to KT...at least your parents will have some company. I'm staying put this year in KL, so I have some CNY snacks to keep me company. P/S: Your aunty's pineapple tarts are not tarts but balls (the enclosed type)...hehehe...and I think her kuih bangkit turned out too crumbly, that's why she said it's a fail. Never mind, practice makes perfect! ;) Wishing you & your partner a Happy & Healthy Year of the Tiger...enjoy your time off...and stay safe too! ^_~

    1. My parents will have a happy CNY this year with both my brothers back in KT. I feel a little left out but then again, I can't travel with my back in its present condition. I couldn't even do any spring cleaning (good excuse!).

Let me also wish you a Happy, Healthy & Safe Chinese New Year with your family (hi Cookie!) and enjoy your snacks and food!

    1. Thank you, Puan Hazel! Yup, even the food we eat during CNY back in KT is like Hari Raya - nasi dagang, nasi minyak, ayam golek and such.

  8. Oh dear! I didn't know that you had this herniated disc. It must have been painful for you compared to me. I would say I was not in much pain except that movements were limited at the start. Stitches still not fully healed for me.
My friend in Melbourne was hospitalized recently with similar issues like yours. I need to read up more about herniated disc. Take care and get well soon.

    1. Thanks, TM. I am much recovered and not in so much pain as initially. Herniated disc is indeed very painful. This is my second experience and I am much better at managing it. Please take good rest until your stitches are fully healed. The external wound heals first and you must take care. Wishing you a speedy speedy recovery!

  9. Hope your herniated disc is better now, PH. I have been in lazy holiday mood since end of January (you can know by the lacking of updates in my blog as well as blog hopping). But today already Chor 8, must adjust my mood to go back to work and blogging. :P
