I ordered for both lunch and dinner. From experience, it is better to order early rather than wait till late afternoon or evening because either it would rain (which it did heavily) or there are no riders nearby.
The package arrived in a plastic bag and was very heavy.
I ordered the Butter Chicken Set (ironically I chose naan instead of chapati) and the Mutton Briyani Set. The naan was wrapped in foil while the mutton briyani was packed in a plastic box. These two were accompanied by two boxes with compartments.
I had to figure out which box was for which set.
The box for the Butter Chicken Set contained the following :
The butter chicken gravy tasted very good but I was disappointed with the chicken because they were breast chunks which were a little hard and dry. Though I enjoyed the gravy, I was not not happy with the chicken.
The dhal was pretty good because it was thick, unlike many dhals which are usually very watery and diluted.
The chickpea salad was all right, something like a plain cucumber acar with chickpeas added.
And now, the dessert. I usually love desserts but not this one, unfortunately. Most Indian desserts and sweets are milk based which I dislike. I took a sniff and it smelled strongly of milk, so I did not bother to taste. This dessert is kheer, a milk pudding. This I had to toss in the bin.
The mutton briyani portion was very big and so were the two chunks of mutton. This is good for two servings.
The briyani was accompanied by curry gravy (tasted like fish curry and very salty), pickles, plain yogurt (raita) and the same dessert. I'm afraid I had to toss the dessert and also the yogurt in the bin since I dislike both.
I have no complaints about the briyani, it was good. If I ever order from Big Singh Chapati again, I would have to put in a note for the restaurant to leave out the dessert and yogurt so as not to waste.
Oh dear!!! Now you've got me craving for chapati!!! The gravy of the butter chicken looks good and yes, I love thick dhal too, not those diluted ones. Ooooo...mutton biryani!!! Slurpsss!!!
ReplyDeleteSuffice to say that it was a rather grand feast, I was so full until the next day. LOL!
DeleteBriyani looked yummy. Butter chicken looked good as well. Yum yum. I ordered once for Indian food through food delivery.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for food deliveries, I can satisfy my cravings anytime. LOL!
DeleteI like thick dhal like that also. I always feel disappointed when the restaurant serve me watery dhal.
ReplyDeleteI was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the dhal.
Deleteyea, i too dislike milky dessert/drinks/sweets. I think i would omit/throw away those too. The briyani looks tasty. I would order it ala-carte (if got) so to not waste the dessert.
ReplyDeleteI think they only have sets. Some restaurants give two options, set or ala carte which I think is better.
DeleteLooks tasty! I would have to eat these meals for a few days. I ok with milk but I don't think I would like these milk desserts cos they don't look appetising in the food containers. Good that they didn't spill.
ReplyDeleteYou would probably take one week to finish hah...hah....hah.... It's really a lot!
DeleteYour flattened naan looks like a chapati itself! ;) I think naan is a better choice to mop up all the curries you have. For some reason, I've never liked chapati. My fav Indian curry is dhal (coz I dislike the taste of curry powder) and I like it not too thick and not too watery. Like you, I would toss the milky dessert and yogurt in the bin too. >.<
ReplyDeleteMe too, not really a fan of chapati. I find naan tastes a lot better. Some people put curry powder when they cook dhall.
DeleteYour chicken, nasi briyani with mutton look delicious. I too do not like their dessert and yogurt. I had just taken a piece of roti canai for dinner with dhall and sambal mixed and we also ordered a small portion of chicken varuval. Long time haven't eaten naan. There was a restaurant serving nice naan but it has since changed ownership.
ReplyDeleteIt is a nice change to have naan instead of rice.
DeleteWish this restaurant were near me! Looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure you have good Indian restaurants near where you live.
DeleteI have visited this outlet twice and the chapati was very good. The bill rolled my eyes and no more. LOLOL
ReplyDeleteLOL! The food is not too bad, just that I can't stomach the milk based dessert and yogurt.
