Lockdown Day #1 : Makan What Today?

Not kimchi, thank God hah..hah... That was my (unhealthy but delish) brunch. I also had two pieces of bread which is not in the photo.

So how is it for you today? I mean those of you who are not in essential goods and services (how dare they say my services are not essential wahahaha!) and staying home. Good I hope. There is lots to do at home like finally cleaning your kitchen or whatever it is that you did not have time to do before.

Me? I am always happy happy when I am at home and I am actually looking forwards to these 14 days of bliss.

So. The other day I ate this after almost 30 years.

My first Maggi Mee experience was during primary school. My grandfather liked to try new stuff and one of them was instant noodles. I must say that among all that we tried, Maggi is the best to me. Maybe there are others better which I have yet to try.

hah..hah... Maggi Mee with my super delicious kimchi jigae. No need to add the Maggi seasoning.

There's nothing like adding carbs to your soup. Gosh. I was super enjoying this.

Then today, I dug into my pantry and found this. Ah! I bought that from Hank's at Jaya Grocer.

So this happened.

I like this luncheon meat because not only does it taste good, it is not too salty. The sausages were in the freezer for a while and it was time to cook them.

Nyum! So good!

This is Belle Belle chilling out on top of daddy's car.

Since she is daddy's favorite girl, she wasn't chased off.

She's been good and so far she has yet to jump on the sofa. Touch wood.

  1. Now I bought a lot of mee cups at home. No one touch those Maggi mee anymore. Lol.

I prefer the American styled breakfast.

    1. I have never bought mee cups. Those are convenient, just pour in the seasoning and hot water. I have seen office staff eat those.

  2. Luncheon meat, sausages...my weaknesses, along with ham, bacon...and smoked duck! Had that today. Blogpost on it coming soon. I tried the new Maggi kari, nice and I was going to ask you how the chicken was...but you went and cooked it your own way...with kim chi. Hmmmmmm!!!!

    1. I have always liked the Maggi chicken flavor and I presume the taste is still the same.

  3. OMG! Your Big Breakfast plate is so tempting. I can eat that for every meal.
I also like Maggi compared to other brands. If want to goreng, IndoMee is the best in the world.
In Korea, they also serve thin noodles with Kimchi Jigae. Now I think eat them with Maggi mee is super sedap!

Belle Belle is so comfortable to sit atop Daddy's Mercedes Benz!! Ask daddy bring her go kai kai.

  4. I just love to eat Maggi mee instant noodles so with kimchi, the combination must taste fabulous. I ordered two food deliveries today and didn't go out at all. Belle Belle is a good girl, just chilling on her papa's car and having a good high view of the world around her. Stay good Belle Belle! Where is Girl? Didn't join Belle Belle on top of the car?

    1. Girl is not as adventurous as Belle Belle. I find that Belle Belle is the brave one, always cool and collected.

  5. Hah...hah..is this #1 the start of more daily posts to come? Hopefully this time it'll end at #14 (not your posts but the lockdown) and not #100 like the first time...lol. I'm also having something similar today...a big breakfast (but with bacon) for lunch instead! ;D By the way, your YiG luncheon meat (still the best for me), is that new or from an old stash as I can't find that brand anymore, so I'm eating Golden Bridge & Lotte now. My dry goods supplier says there are none coming in from China but I noticed the packaging for YiG is also different...and it's from Singapore now? How much for a can?

I also think the texture of Maggi's instant noodles is the best...and for flavour, Maggi curry is my favourite, not their other flavours. But since you're not using the seasoning anyway, it doesn't matter...lol.

Cookie alsositsIt's a bit odd for Belle (and for cats in general) to not jump on sofas. If I'm seated at the sofa, Cookie would always want to sit next to me. So, to discourage him not to sit on the sofa, I have to sit elsewhere when he's in the house...haiz. P/S: Oh dear, is Belle having an infection again? I notice some wet fur.

    1. hee..hee..yes, now that I am at home everyday, I have more time to write. The YiG is from an old stash, bought last year. Let me check at Hank's (once lockdown is over) if they still have it in stock or else I have to switch brands too (will follow your choice hah..hah..). Sorry, I can't remember the price.

I have tried Magi curry but somehow did not like it.

Belle used to jump on the sofa when she first came to stay. But she seems to avoid it now, only jumping on the armchair and coffee table. Girl will come and join me on the sofa but not all the time. Looks like Cookie is very attached to you. Oh, the wet fur was because I just cleaned Belle's ear. The infection is gone, no more smelly liquid coming out but there are still those brown ear wax (which reappeared after I allowed her to go outside). So I make it a point to clean her ear and apply ear drops.

  6. yea, i agree that Maggi is the best in terms of noodles texture and flavor. Previously (many many years ago) i have tried Cintan, Mamee, Myojo...and all sorts of lousy brands (which i forgot) but now i only stick to Maggi. Sometimes i would crave for Penang White Curry and Prawn flavor noodles (which Maggi does not have), so my second best option would be Ibumie, only for these 2 flavors.

  7. Whenever I see Maggi mee, this phrase comes to mind: Mee maggi, cepat dimasak sedap dimakan. Mee maggi is still my favourite. My first choice is your Western breakfast. Mee Maggi can keep for another day.....Lol!

  8. I seldom take maggi mee too... once a very long time perhaps and no other choice at home.. but with Jin, different story, I like the springiness of the noodles anytime. I like luncheon meat too, the other day I tried the Singapore brand, forgot the name, nowadays Spam cost RM23 already! From RM14 to 23...so I guess I have to change brand meanwhile...

  9. I like Yige luncheon meat too but I stocked up too many Korean luncheon meat which I bought from FB sellers, will try to find it after finish my stock, hehe :P
I have been trying various types of instant noodles from other countries (Thailand, China, Taiwan, Korea) because they are conveniently available on online shopping platforms.

    1. I have yet to try any of the Korean luncheon meat. These days it is so easy to shop, just browse and click and sometimes I get carried away and buy too much!

  10. Your big breakfast or brunch looks so yummy! I am eyeing the luncheon meat, the egg and the baked beans, slurps! Good that you combine the instant noodles with Kimchi Jigae, so no need to use the unhealthy seasonings.

I had tried instant noodles from Thailand, Korea, China and Taiwan as they are so convenient to cook, but it is only once in a while, not so often, so still ok. I read on Facebook that there was this youngster who eats instant noodles everyday for a few years and a tumour grows in his stomach. Oh no, scary!

    1. I think if we eat instant noodles once in a while, no issue lah. My mum said that if we add meat and vegetables and don't put too much of the seasoning, it can be healthy. LOL!
