Thank God No Gila Shoppers Today

Two more days to lockdown and yesterday I was very worried that Aeon at 1 Utama would be crowded today. I was so worried that my partner and I left the house at 9:30 am even though 1 Utama is just a stone's throw away from us.

We were pleasantly surprised that the supermarket was already opened and there were not many shoppers inside. Shopping was a breeze and I ticked off items from my grocery list although there were a few that were not available.

As 10:00 am approached more people started coming in and by then we were almost done. The checkout counters were clear and we got out of there quickly. I guess all the mad shoppers had already shopped till they dropped the day before leaving us with much peace hah..hah...

I got Belle Belle a new box and she has been jumping into it everyday.

She also likes to hang out in the (messy) garden.

My garden was so neat and nice during MCO 1.0 last year. Everyday I happily spent the mornings pulling weeds and rearranging flower pots.

I am looking forwards to another round of gardening come 01-06-2021. Imagine two weeks of blissful gardening, I can't wait.

I have been eating pretty much kimchi jigae for the past few days. I am not tired of it, but I know you are hah...hah....

I hear someone say "For heaven's sake woman! Cook something else for a change!". I say to you "What for?" Hah!

The nice thing about these Korean stone pots is that the hot soup continues to bubble even after you remove it from the stove.

I leave the pot to stand for about 20 minutes or so because I find it very difficult to drink soup that is boiling hot. My late grandma told me that her father (who came from China) was very particular about soup.

Soup must be served boiling hot from the kitchen. Even if you missed by a minute, he can tell by sipping the soup and would insist on sending it back to the kitchen to be reheated.

I always add an egg into my kimchi jigae. I live for that yolk!

  2. I will be doing gardening too. School holiday for next 2 weeks so I have free time at hand.

Hubby and I went to Aeon this morning. Reached there at 10, in time for its opening. Quickly grab our stuff and went home.

    1. These days it's always grab and go, no more taking our time to browse. Can be quite stressful hah..hah..

  3. The AEON here started to have long queue again since the initial MCO 3.0 last week. I kinda hope they could at least during these times, change their opening time from 10.30AM to maybe 9AM. Anyway I dare not go there anyway, have been buying my grocery in nearby mini market and frozen meat shop. My veggie diet consists largely of frozen carrots, frozen long beans and frozen broccoli the past couple of weeks.

    1. Aeon here has changed their opening time to 9:00 am which is very nice. I can go early and leave early. I have never tried those frozen vegetables that you mentioned.

  4. I am also very particular about my food being warm and hot, I do not eat food that are cold except for raw salmon. Do you know the secret to longevity is morning walk and gardening? When the eldest members of the Japanese community were asked about their life philosophy, their ikigai, and the secrets to longevity, this is what they say, "I wake up everyday at the same time, early, and spend the morning in my vegetable garden. After an hour in the garden I go back inside and make breakfast."

So, good for you, now that you can do some gardening.

  5. The Koreans never get sick of Kimchi Jigae, so it won't happen to you lah. I just told my wife that we have eaten the Kimchi Jigae at 3 different places (Setia Alam and Mont Kiara) I pointed out to her that the one at Mont Kiara was heavenly nice to the last drop. Why??? I pointed out to her that their secret homemade kimchi is the truths. So I ordered her to make the best Kimchi Jigae for me! Muahahahaha

Please add more boxes for your cats to play. Keeping them happy will bring abundance of joy and luck to the Master!

  7. i think these days supermarket will open early since they closing at 8pm. Your kimchi jigae looks good like those served in restaurant. Do you poke the egg yolk and stir it in the soup before consuming or u wait till the egg yolk is cooked (of half cooked) and eat it separately? Only Belle get a box? ah girl don't have?

    1. Aeon now opens 9:00 am. Thanks, I prefer to eat the yolk separately or break it on my rice. Ah Girl not so interested in boxes these days. She will just smell and scratch it. LOL!

  10. Your kimchi jigae looks delicious even though I don't know how to enjoy it. Now Girl and Belle has their own box home. Belle seems to like nature. I too need to catch up on weeding before the weeds take over my garden. Warm soup is ok with me but not cold soup.

You're lucky to devote some time for gardening. Getting some sunshine (vitamin d), vit c & zinc may be helpful to fight cv according to some scientists & doctors.

  12. I'm sure there are still gila shoppers around (just that we didn't see them coz we choose to shop at the earliest possible) as evidenced by the very two items (eggs & bread) which were difficult to get during the first lockdown (due to hoarders). The supermarket near my place, the egg & bread section, the shelves were totally empty. I ended up getting help from the lady boss of a place I eat at frequently and asked her to get for me when their egg supplier/truck make the rounds to their place (coz I didn't want to go around searching for eggs). I also happened to be at the petrol station and managed to find bread at Shell Select (of all places).

    1. Somehow people are still so scared of not having enough food. This time around, I feel lucky that I did not have to brave the crowds like last year. Thankfully, I did not see empty shelves at Aeon and I managed to get my eggs. Phew!
