Remember the iconic Swedish pop group ABBA? Their songs still sound as fresh as the day when I was a teenager fantasizing about becoming a rock star wahahahaha!!! Well, this ABBA has nothing to do with that ABBA.
It was a Friday evening and my partner and I initially planned on dinner at Chili's (we haven't been for a while) when I suddenly remembered that Chili's is a popular buka puasa venue.
For the time being it is best to avoid the hot buka puasa spots and that was how we ended up at SS2. We parked and walked around looking for a place to eat.
Some restaurants were jam packed with queues forming outside while others were deathly quiet. That's when we came across ABBA.
My partner loves bento (and chicken karaage) so it did not take much convincing for him to agree to step inside.
We took our time to peruse the menu. I was immediately attracted to the Beef Rice Bowl due to the sight of the magnificent medium rare beef.
And then there were the bentos.
They even have Korean Army Stew, something I have never been able to wrap my head around, much as I love Korean.
These were our orders. A Beef Rice Bowl for me.
It took quite a long time for it to be served (the pasta too) but it was worth the wait. The beef was done perfectly to medium rare and was tender and moist to the bite. It was a very satisfying bowl of food and I would not mind having it again.
I enjoyed the garlic sauce - garlicky, gingery, sweet and salty - it hit all the right notes with me.
My partner was happy with his bento and chicken karaage (thumbs up from me too except that I thought it was a bit greasy, could have been drained better).
He also liked the pasta which I did not appreciate quite as much due to the lemon juice squeezed in but I must give credit to the generous portion and ingredients and the tender chicken chunks.
Mamma Mia!!! Ini memang ABBA sesat, lost in Japan, LOL!!! Thank goodness everything was all right. Hey!!! I have that mug with the brown teddy bear!!! I use it all the time.
ReplyDeleteI thought the mug was so cute :)
DeleteI would love to dine in this place. I like bento.
ReplyDeleteWonder what Abba means in Japanese. Lol. My favourite songs mostly from this group. Their songs never grow old.
When I can dine there again, I will find out. LOL!
DeleteNow that I think about it, I have not had Japanese food since... MCO 1.0. Hardly dine in at restaurants already, and I feel Japanese food and western food are just not suitable for delivery/tapao.
ReplyDeleteThat's more than a year liao! True true, some food not nice when tapao.
DeleteWhen you said some restaurants had long queues while others were deadly quiet (I'm assuming ABBA is one of them as seen in the photo), I was expecting the worse but (luckily) the meal turned out satisfying for you both. From the pics of what you had, I would say that this place does Japanese and western cuisine more to local tastebuds. I can see why your partner enjoyed the pasta coz, other than the use of spaghetti, it looks like a Chinese-style stir-fried noodles with chicken and veggies that's right up his alley...lol! P/S: ABBA reminds me of two of my favourite musical movies...c'mon with Meryl Streep & Cher singing...who wouldn't be entertained. Wonder what made the owners choose ABBA as their restaurant's name...fans of ABBA? Hehehe! ;)
ReplyDeletehah...hah.. yes, it was more a spaghetti goreng Chinese style except for the lemon juice and a little bit of cheese. I have watched both the Mamma Mia movies! Shoudl I dine there again, I will find out why the restaurant is called ABBA. LOL!
DeleteI love abba songs. Was singing them when in standard two. Lucky for the both of you that the food was nice. I think I will like the pasta as I like lemon taste. And I would love the beef bowls too. Soon cannot go to pj from kl again. No dine in for pj Eateries is good. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI feel very sorry for the eateries, it's like a start-stop-start-stop for them. But what to do, it is a necessary measure.
DeleteHahahaha I managed to make my previous comment at zero time.
ReplyDeletePerfect timing. LOL!
DeleteOh I love ABBA songs, watched the Mamma Mia 1 and 2 as well... still prefer the first movie compared to the two..
ReplyDeleteok, back to your food, I would like to try the Salmon rice bowl... Unagi would be best if they have!
Me too prefer the first movie hah..hah...
Deletequite a nice meal! but the shop name abit 'off'....I like 'ABBA' songs, my parents used to have tapes of their songs...catchy and nice to dance around with the songs...LOL!
ReplyDeleteI will ask them next time why they call thier shop ABBA. LOL!
DeleteA more localized Japanese food restaurant, price seem quite reasonable. But I would have hoped for a neater food presentation. :P
ReplyDeleteVery localized but I don't mind since the taste is good.
DeleteABBA is certainly a catchy name. I quietly admit though that I was never a big fan.
ReplyDeleteAH, different taste in music then! hee..hee...
DeleteI love the ABBA songs! They were happy and entertaining!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there's an ABBA restaurant nearby. I will check out.
They are also on Grabfood. Dunno when we can dine out again. Haiz......
