Today Everybody MCO

The government has decided to implement MCO 3.0 nationwide and it starts from today (12-05-2021) until 07-06-2021. Wonderful.

It's probably better this way instead of MCO in some states and CMCO/EMCO/RMCO in others. Very confusing. With the number of Covid-19 infections on the rise, this blanket MCO is necessary.  We are all used to it already, aren't we? At least it is not like MCO 1.0 which was a total lockdown.

I am actually feeling more afraid now compared to the time when the MCO was first implemented on 18-03-2020. This is because of the sharp spike in Covid-19 cases and the emergence of various strains that seem to be more virulent. That's the thing with virus. They can mutate very rapidly.

Yesterday I went to the bank and stood in the queue outside. As is very common these days, there were markers on the floor placed there to make sure people queue with physical distancing.

The lady behind me was playing with her phone and she kept inching closer and closer to me (clearly stepping beyond her marker). So I turned around and said to her "Puan, maaf ya saya tegur. Boleh Puan tolong berdiri ke belakang sedikit?"

She moved back (not without giving me the evil eye) and stood behind the red line. The thing is, if people cannot even follow a simple SOP of standing within the marker, how can we move forward to stop infectivity of the virus? Believe me, there are many such people around.

Inside the bank I saw one Ah Phor wearing her mask below her nose. Haiz...... Then I realized that her mask was loose. She pulled it up but as soon as she started talking to the bank officer, her mask slipped below her nose again. Gosh.

So please yah, not only wear your mask properly, make sure it fits properly too.

Last Sunday, my grocery run was a bit kelam kabut because 1 Utama was closed (listed under HIDE) and so was The Starling. So my partner and I ended up elsewhere.

Memories of long queues at the supermarket came flooding back. Oh misery! Well, what to do. Just queue up lah.

While in the queue, I noticed people who had the audacity to enter this shop without bothering to scan the Mysejahtera QR code. There were quite a few of them.

Ah! Pastries and bread! No. No. Cannot.

The staff at Jaya Grocer had to monitor the number of people inside. So we had to wait for shoppers to leave before our turn to shop. I was already quite worked up waiting and observing how some people were just blatantly ignoring SOPs.

When we finally got inside I was quite incensed by how inconsiderate some people were. There was this lady who was inspecting a packet of lettuce, turning it over and over again and then putting it back and picking up another one and repeating her QC (another two times) before deciding to buy the lettuce.

Please!!! We are under MCO and many people are queuing outside. Hurry up!!! Sheeesh....... I wanted to scream. Sorry about my rant. I get very upset and irritated by such behavior. I mean, sure you have every right to select your purchase but please be quick about it especially when there are other people waiting for their turn.

OK. Enough ranting. Let me show you one of my pre-MCO dine-ins.

The Really Big Breakfast just like the one I had back in 2018.

This place is ever popular. At the entrance I was told that diners are limited to staying for 1.5 hours. No worries. I am a fast eater.

The big breakfast was better than what I remembered.

It was truly filling and satisfying.

The scrambled eggs were pretty good.

It was a really big breakfast, so big that I only had fruits for dinner.

With dine-in not allowed now, I can save some money.

This place is really expensive.

Happy MCO 3.0.

That really big breakfast looks so good. Lucky you, can get to feast on that before the lockdown. Dunno when the next time will be!!!
I went to the bank yesterday and yes, all good, all well=behaved, followed the SOP and not that many people, the branch I went to...but I was there for hours, so understaffed...I guess with the lockdown, only 30% of them at work at any one time.

    1. It's very scary, so I refrain from going out unless absolutely necessary. I will get more groceries this weekend.

  4. Don't get me started on people who don't follow SOP, especially smokers who still smoke along corridors of shops. I have eaten at red kettle once only, not their big breakfast. Your big breakfast looks really good. My friend went to Aeon Supermarket in One utama and on 5 May 2021, her status turn to casual contact. Lucky u and your partner didn't get casual contact status for going there too. Casual contact is ok because it just means on that day, got a case there, not that got contact with the case but it is still very scary to think cases are everywhere now.

    1. I am so scared these days and this Sunday I want to stock up more groceries so that I don't have to go out again until the following week. I went to Jaya Grocer at Starling on Wednesday and luckily there were not many people.

  6. Whatever you have observed...I have witnessed too...people flouting SOPs left, right & centre. It gets my blood boiling! >_< I'm not sure if this MCO 3.0 is enough. I would have preferred a total lockdown like before (for a more effective result)...better to be short & painful than to be a long & drawn out affair.

This pandemic has been around for so long that people start to be laxed about it...they go on with their lives like nothing has changed. My neighbours, for instance, still goes out 2 - 3 times a day. When I ask, it's always to buy either food or fruits/veggies. I wonder if that's really necessary. There's only two of them (their children and their families are living overseas)...how much can two elderly persons eat? That only tells me they buy very little on each trip so that they have a reason to go out? And they're not into food or groceries deliveries either. I only go out to buy fresh produce like once in 1 - 2 weeks and meat, probably once a month. On days that I don't cook or order food delivery, when I do go out to tapau, I'd buy breakfast, lunch & dinner all at once. Yeah, of course it's better to eat it when it's fresh & hot but, in times like these, we have to settle for reheating coz it should be safety over tasty...lol.

P/S: That's a really big price, so it had to be a really big breakfast! ;D I see they still serve it on a wooden board (since your meal there in 2018!). I once cut cooked meat on my wooden cutting board and I couldn't wash off the oily stains for a long time. Now I line my wooden board with parchment paper first. ^_~

    1. Your observation is correct - people are lax and very casual about it. I still see people bringing their young children out and even the elderly, in spite of being in the vulnerable group, don't seem to be conscientious about SOPs. This weekend, I am going to stock up more so that I need not go out mid-week to buy anything. It be best if I selected vegetables that can keep longer.

Hah..hah.. I cut my cooked steak on my wooden cutting board and experienced the same thing as you. I had to wash it many times with detergent before I got that oily and beefy smell out!

  7. So true, everywhere there are people flouting sop! These people are not willing to cooperate for the good of everyone. That big breakfast will be just nice for hubby and I to share. 5 years ago, I will be able to finish the whole platter by myself but not now.

  8. Sometimes the more I read the forwarded messages, the more distressing it can be. Of course, cannot be completely stressed up by them... just stay home more and go out less... but then still need to go out.. no more vegetables, need to buy oil, salt and maybe a packet of rice and still thinking when to go... LOL...
Really giant breakfast la... I think I can take one third? and perhaps tar pau the rest! LOL...

  9. Nowdays I do most of most of my grocery shopping online. I don't want to jostle with the crowd. As a believer in alternative news I am no longer afraid of the microscopic organism which has not been proven to actually exist but I am terrified of the recommended cure. Oops best don't say anymore I get banned & labelled a nutter. haa haa... Take care & be brave Phong, these are tough times especially if mco is forever.

    1. I do some shopping online too but as far as veggies are concerned I have had not so good experience. So I still grab them myself. Must be very careful these days. You stay safe too!

  10. Heightened Alert Phase 2 starts tomorrow on Sunday, but at least now we are mentally prepared and better than total lock down. No more dine in starts tomorrow.
