It's MCO again. Honestly, it does not feel any different anymore. Our new normal has become our normal, normal. With MCO implemented (yet) again, there is no more dine-ins, no crossing district and state borders.
It's just as well that I live and work in the same district and I have just begun my low carb diet which means that I have to prepare my own lunch. I still go to work as usual, put on my mask as usual and I make a conscious to physical distance from people when I am out in public places.
Let me show you my last dine-in, which was horrible.
I won't say the name of the place but it was here. The kerisik/sambal tumis had a rancid taste and the flesh of the fried chicken was terribly soft, as if it was boiled for a long time and the deep fried.
Actually by that time, I was already tired of eating out. During MCO 1.0, I was like yahoo! yabadabadoo! Grab-fooding almost everyday eating nasi lemak, wanton mee, and lots of donuts.
Yesterday I cooked something healthy.
Some sort of mixed fried vegetables with prawns. There are Brussels sprouts, asparagus, carrots and mushrooms in the stir fry. With benefit of hindsight, the Brussels sprouts would be better sliced, segmented or with leaves separated.
The amount I cooked was enough for two meals. It was a very nice change to eat loads of veggies and prawns (which I hardly ever eat). I hope I can lose some fat hah..hah....
I want to eat more of such stir frys which is so easy to cook with many variations of vegetables and proteins.
I was very tempted to interfere just like what every protective parent would do for their favorite child. But I stopped myself.
What was that? The salted egg looked good though - nicer that the one in the kerabu you had that day. Soft? Maybe that was like the ayam penyet at the Indon places here. They say they boil first and then deep fry, hence the texture like that. I thought it was horrible!!! Rose syrup? Yikes!!! They love it at the Malay places here, not to my liking!!!
ReplyDeleteLow carbs? Welcome to the club! Hehehehehehe!!!
Not a very happy club. LOL!
DeleteHave you panicked yet? Heard that ALL the supermarkets and the shops in the HIDE list are closed...and those few that have been spared are so packed, no parking, quite impossible to enter!!! Hope you've already stocked up on everything!!!
ReplyDeleteI am very afraid! All this time, I have been doing my part and yet I see so many people with lax attitude towards SOPs. Yup, my regular supermarkets (two of them) are closed and my partner and I had to find an alternative. Fortunately we were early and did not have to wait too long in the queue.
DeleteLol on your cats.
ReplyDeleteYour stir fried vegetables looked good and yummy.
Stay safe.
Thank you hee..hee... You and your family stay safe too!
DeleteI guess with less people dining out the food turnover is not fast enough so the food are not that fresh. I can't take my eyes off the prawns in your vege bowl. Where did you buy your prawns? Both girls are so relax, looking at you cleaning their litter box. You are so lucky, went to one utama but didn't get matched by the app so status is still ok. Did you go register for AZ jab to get it faster? Stay safe! Going out for groceries is kind of risky to get matched now. Will u buy groceries delivery?
ReplyDeleteI got the prawns from Vfresh online. 1 Utama was closed last Sunday, so that's why I wasn't matched. LOL! I still prefer to pick up my groceries.
DeleteIt's back to no dine-ins in restaurant....so sad....Your mixed fried veggies look colorful and healthy....yummzz!
ReplyDeleteI pity all the restaurants.
DeleteI have filled up my average freezer, can last me for a week or two, I guess but not greens... hope they won't close the mini wet market around my area... This time the pandemic is many times worse than the MCO 1 last year, going to supermarkets can be very challenging too these days...
ReplyDeleteMy freezer is full too. So only to take care of buying veggies. I am more afraid now compared to MCO 1.0. LOL!
DeleteOh no, what happened to the taste-lah? I remember you liked it previously. Looking at the previous pic, looks like there are some missing items from your platter (satay, beef rendang & samosa) unless this is a different order. I have to say I do have a liking for rose syrup (in small quantities and not too sweet) but not sure if I would like it in sago gula melaka though (never tried before). I think they served it together since sago and rose syrup do go together (as in kuih sago rose which I love!) but maybe not when there's santan in it? ;)
ReplyDeleteOops, I forgot to mention that I would gladly eat your bowl of greens with those prawns (from Vfresh?).
DeleteP/S: Haiz, the things we do for our "kids" including litter box (and diapers previously) duty. Now which one (or both?) of your chilling cats has been scratching your old newspapers...naughty, naughty! I guess it's better than scratching your slippers. Cookie for some reason doesn't scratch slippers nor newspapers (but there used to be a stray cat who comes and scratch my slippers daily, thank god it's gone).
This restaurant, like many others, is not consistent and their standards have dropped lot. You are right, this is a different order, not the loaded one LOL! Yup, my prawns were from Vfresh. Oh, you noticed the scratched newspapers hah..hah...Girl is the one who did it. You are lucky that Cookie doesn't scratch newspapers or your slippers. My slippers have marks where Girl digs her claws into it and she makes a mess with the newspapers. Haiz........
DeleteLove your stir fries. Look so delicious. Yes, starting today, no more dine-in for 2 weeks until situation improves. Scary reports, getting worse. Hope our situation doesn't get uncontrollable.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. We need people to be more complaint of the SOPs.
DeleteI'm bored of my cold salad lunch and maybe I should start cooking my veggies stir fry :)
ReplyDeleteIt will be a nice change hee..hee..
DeleteYup, I read in the news that there is MCO in Malaysia again. Looking at your sago gula Melaka makes me have craving for dessert again. Asparagus is one of my favourite veggie. Your stir fries look yum and healthy.
ReplyDeleteYup, MCO again but so used to it already. LOL!
DeleteLol on both your daughters.
ReplyDeleteLOL!
DeleteThat place sucks...food not even nyonya at all...I ate their ayam ponteh - do not taste any thing like real McCoy. thx but no thx...went there twice - disappointed twice as they put the nyonyas to shame....kakatooooooo….boleh bungkus la....tutup kedai as they sell the nyonyas short. not nyonya meal at all.
ReplyDeleteSo far I only tried their nasi kerabu and nasi lemak. Actually I find that most of the nonya restaurants that I have tried, they just don't cut it. So these days, I stay away from any restaurant that label themselves "nonya".
DeleteThis MCO makes me gloomy. I started browsing overseas hotels for shiok sendiri in case the borders open by year end. No harm browsing to keep me sane.
ReplyDeleteLuckily I have not tried this restaurant yet. I will sure heed your advice and stay miles away.
For someone like you who is adventurous and loves to travel, MCO is misery indeed. Ah Hong Chee is the duduk rumah diam2 type, so I am all right with it.
DeleteThis restaurant in my opinion may not last very long.
