Mackerel and Kimchi

That's my very unglamorous  lunch today. I wasn't feeling very hungry because last night, while binge watching Narcos, I binged on granola. Haiz.............

I was very well behaved for the past two weeks but I was suddenly bitten by the snack bug. So I caved in.

The good thing about satisfying a craving is that, for the next few days, I know I'm good. No more sudden impulses because I am fulfilled. But there is no guarantee that I won't be tempted again after that.

I made kimchi today. Kimchi is very practical. I can store it in the fridge to be eaten for many days. At least even if a lockdown is imposed (waiting with bated breath at the time of writing for the government to decide) I have a source of roughage all ready in the fridge hah..hah..hah...

I am trying to clear my freezer of old stock and I have two pieces of saba sitting in a container. So I decided to have fish today. I made sure to pat dry the mackerel and air fried the two pieces in my air fryer.

Turned out quite all right although the fish did stick a little bit to the air fryer basket.

I think I did not spray enough oil.

I just ate it like that with my freshly made kimchi. A light and simple lunch.

It's like doing penance for last evening's transgression.

Belle Belle is very comfortable in the house now. At one point, she was always hesitant at the door, not sure if she should come inside or not. Now she dashes right in.

Her little "box house" has gone to hell. She and Girl both take turns to scratch the box and make a big mess in the house.

Girl is now more accepting of Belle Belle.

She does not whine and complain about Belle Belle anymore.

They are friends but not quite. Sometimes they seem cordial towards one another and at other times, one will get aggressive against the other.

Belle Belle is usually the aggressor and sometimes I give her a slap on her behind to let her know that it is not acceptable behavior.

Sometime I can't believe I have two cats living with me inside the house. I used to wonder how people can put up with animals inside their house. And here I am.

    3. That box was actually from a hamper my sis-in-law received. She gave it to me as she knows I love these things.

  3. It is ok to binge once in a while. Love the kimchi and your Saba fish but the Saba fish may be too flavourful for me. I will eat kimchi with wanton Mee because the dark sauce of the wanton Mee is sweet and boring without pickled green chilies. Love your photos of both girls. Time to get a cat tree for them to sharpen their claws. Love the photo of Girl standing up looking at Belle on the table and telling Belle, eh, cannot sleep on table, get down get down, hehehehe. ๐Ÿ˜ธ

  4. Ah, so you'd rather make your air fryer smell than your oven when cooking saba...lol! How long do you need to cook it in the air fryer? I was told food cooked in the air fryer cooks faster with better browning (as I can see in yours).

(Scratching) cardboard boxes is any cat's favourite thing to do. You're lucky the box lasted this long. As I've said, it's only a matter of time (once you allow her into the house) that Belle will know this is her forever home. When I open the door, Cookie will dash right in too (I don't even have to call his name, after a while they can even recognise the sound of the door and key turning). Belle will learn that too.

    1. hah..hah... yes, because I don't bake cookies or cakes in the air fryer, so it can stink for all I care wahahahha... I cooked the fish for 8 minutes at 180C. It is true that food cooks faster in the air fryer due to the better hot air circulation in a small space.

I had to throw that box away eventually haiz... That's what Girl does, she dashes home when I open the door and it's really a heart warming sight. Belle is a little slower to catch on. If she is at the neighbor's I have to call her.

    2. Oh, that's not much faster as I cook mine in the oven for 8 minutes too at 200C. In fact, it's done in 6 - 7 minutes but I left it in longer hoping for more browning.

  5. Now you have more times at home with your cats.

Sounds easy with air fryer to fry fishes.

  6. Beautifully done Saba. I like the Saba but not the kimchi. Belle and Girl are like siblings now, they fight and make up. Scratching boxes is better than scratching your furniture because you can always change the boxes. I wonder what was Girl talking to Belle. Lol!

    1. LOL! Girl was probably telling Belle "You are sitting in my place!". Girl used to relax there and look out the glass door during the day.

  7. I always put silicone mat or put my food in a metal/ceramic plate when air frying food, so that I no need to wash the air fryer every time after using it. :P

  8. I will ask my lahling to put my favourite fishes into her air fryer tomorrow to experiment. She has not used it yet. If I eat just fish and kim chi like you, I would turn into Pink Panther right away.

Your cats scratched the boxes because they really enjoyed it. Give them few more boxes to play hide & seek. I also wondered how my ex colleague could live in an apartment with 15 cats!!!!!!!! I swear it is real story.

    1. Pink Panther? LOL!!

Goodness, 15 cats is way to many. I salute your ex-colleague! I cannot imagine what it is like and the cost of feeding all the kitties. Not to mention the litter box cost and washing >.<
