Covid-19 MCO : Day #8 (Beef Ragu)

Haiz....I just read the news that the movement control order has been extended to April 14. What to do? It is a necessary move due to the spike in new Covid-19 cases. This extension has a significant impact on all of us economically but let's stay positive.

It looks like I will have to continue with my masak-masak activities. So what did I cook today?

I made Beef Ragu and what I got from this pot is four servings. One for today and another three to be frozen for later. That means that on certain days I won't have to cook.

I served the beef ragu with fettuccini.

I thought it was quite nice except that my sauce should be thicker.

I also cooked a big batch of soup. Look what I found in the freezer.

Woohoo!!

It went into my soup.

Smelled so good! This pot of soup is good for four days supply.

While I was busy in the kitchen, this missy was fast asleep.

So syiok see her sleep.

Yesterday afternoon she was up to some mischief. It was all quite in the house when I realized she was nowhere to be seen. Girl! Where are you?

Haiks!! On Mommy's bed!

Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!

I just let her be. The next time I checked on her, she moved to the spare room.

Has any one of you ladies had any issues with your ketua rumah (head of the household) going on grocery run? Or do you do it yourself?

Well, I sent my lahling to buy cabbage (and French beans).

Then he bought another one because he wasn't sure which one I wanted. Unfortunately, he forgot to bring his specs and he accidentally bought an expensive cabbage. Look.

My poor lahling. I will use up every part of this cabbage, no waste.

While rummaging through the fridge drawer this morning, I found pecans. So many tubs of pecans. Haiz....so I roasted them in the oven for munching.

So that's it for today. I am craving for fish and that's what I will eat tomorrow hee...hee....

    1. I know LOL! But this was in the freezer for quite long, so better I chuck into soup. That cabbage is organic and some more from USA (pengsan!)

  5. Yup, that's the reason why I don't send my husband to buy groceries coz they won't do a good job of it. I'd rather do it myself. If I were to send him out, I'd probably get him to buy stuff like oil, soya sauce & rice (where he can take a photo of the brand first!). Now that the MCO has been extended, we need to watch our budget more closely and not spend unnecessarily (like this expensive organic cabbage...which can buy us 6 'normal' cabbages....haha!) coz every cent counts.

I have to say this is the first time I've seen roast pork being used in soups. If I buy roast pork from the market, I usually use it to fry vegetables especially leeks. P/S: I did tell you that your girl will eventually find her way to your bed...hehehe! ;) Cats are very clever to find soft spots to snooze.

    1. My partner needs his reading glasses to read labels and unfortunately he left them behind. He is not the sort to overspend, especially when he is from Penang wahahaha!!

I put the roast pork into soup because it had been in the freezer for a while and might be dry if I reheated in the oven. It gives a nice smokey flavor to the soup. Yup, you were right. My girl loves my bed!

  6. Pasta looks great. Aiyor!!! Siew yoke in soup? I don't like it wet - that is why I don't like poon choy, all the siew yoke, the roasted chicken, duck...drowned in the thick gravy.

  9. I am always very careful when I buy vegetables esp the organic ones are too expensive for me. You should one day visit Le Market inside Faber Towers where they sell very fresh vegetables and many imported stuffs. I was shocked to see the separate vegetable shelves that sell items farmed by Japanese farmers in Malaysia!!! I believe they target the Japanese expatriates here.

I want to scream at your pork belly and roasted pecans. So yummy!

Your cat knows that you have a very luxurious wedding bed!! She will slowly dig all the starfishes and sea shells. Don't you feel drowned when you sleep in the ocean bedsheets?

  11. siew yoke is never in the soup....that's my mum's theory...not only it gets the soup oily but the siew yoke no longer taste like siew yoke after drenched in soup...lolx

  12. I was just about to comment why you used the roasted pork for soup instead of just eating it directly. But i got the answer when I read about your reply on Kris's comment. :P
