This is a bad Saturday. But it started out good on Friday (except the Godzilla movie. Bleagh). I have been reading and craving about Ipoh food on Claire's and Nancy's blog. So if I could experience Ipoh food in my neighborhood, why not, eh?
That was Friday. I walked in for a late lunch. Only two other tables were occupied.
What is Ipoh good for? One of it is Kai See Hor Fun. Right?
So that's what I ordered.
Yup, it was good. The broth was flavorful and the hor fun smooth and slippery. The two prawns were fresh but the chicken was obviously chicken breast and it was dryish.
So I thought, hey this is good. I will come back for the curry noodles.
Saturday. I walked in late morning and the place was more than half full, filled with mostly families. At the table, you have the order chit and the server would come over to hand you the menu.
I sat there for the longest time and nobody paid me any attention. I know the servers were busy but surely someone would have noticed and what is so difficult about handing me the menu?
So I grabbed a pencil from another table (cos mine had none) and helped myself to a menu from the stack at the counter. After I filled up my order, a server took it from me together with the menu. And so I waited.
And waited. I did not remind the servers as I wanted to observe what would happen. Just then, a couple walked in and took the table beside me.
After 30 minutes (yes, 30 minutes), a server dropped the menu on my table.
Eh? Just like that. Why? Did he think that I have not ordered yet? Or they lost my order and expected me to fill up another one?
And guess what? The couple who sat beside me got their orders less than 10 minutes after they were seated.
And guess what? Madam upped and left in a huff. I was so pissed off. Ipoh or no Ipoh, I ain't coming back.
So. I had to look for something else to eat. I ended up with these.
Misery, thy name is yam cake.
Green bean thong sui.
I was still hangry hungry. I stopped by here.
Been wanting to visit.
I walked in and the environment (not the decor, but the whole feel) was very Chinese. I am Chinese but I don't thrive well in such an ecosystem. I asked for the nasi lemak but was told that they only serve that on weekdays. So I left.
And I ended up having a nice burger elsewhere. Tell you about it later.
So that was my not-so-good Saturday.
Sempena Hari Raya next week, I shall not be in such a grumpy mood.
I wish all my Muslim friends and readers
SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDIL FITRI.
MAAF ZAHIR BATIN.
But tiada maaf bagi mu for those people at that Ipoh place.
With that, I shall be on a blogging break the whole of next week (I'm still working lah). See you the week after. Happy holidays!
Oops sorry to hear about your bad day. no point serving good food in a restaurant if the service s*cks.
ReplyDeleteGenerally, service at most restaurants need an overhaul. LOL!
DeleteYou went to see Godzilla? Eyewwwwww!!!! I saw the trailer when I went to see TWOmovies this week, both good, well worth watching. WHAT? 30 minutes before you got the menu? I would have raised a storm and given them a good telling off before I stomp out of the place, never to come back again!
ReplyDeleteAnd WHATTTTTT??? You are going to take a one-week break? Now what I am going to do without you, you tell me? Tsk! Tsk!!! Permission not granted! LOL!!!
You sound like a very fierce headmaster telling a teacher that leave is denied. LOL!
DeleteOh dear, I would be angry too especially when I am hungry but the burger looks so food that all well that ends well I guess. Are you working on Saturdays now? Is Godzilla movie that bad? Enjoy your blogging break next week. will miss your post!
ReplyDeleteThe burger was good. Will blog about it soon. I do work on Saturdays every now and then. Don't bother watching Godzilla. It's very cheesy and no substance in spite of the monster-fest.
DeleteIt happened also to me a few times so I can totally understand your feelings
ReplyDeleteIt should not happen in and shows that the restaurant is not well run.
DeleteOnce I waited for more than 30 minutes for my order at Nana Green Tea, I was so pissed off so I can understand how you feel.
ReplyDeleteService like this will turn customers away.
DeleteThe burger looks very delicious..hope the nice burger meal set has cooled you down a bit.
ReplyDeleteYup, the burger more than made up for the lousy experience.
DeleteAdui, what a bad service at Ipoh Place!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your long holiday, Ph!
I mean, long blogging holiday. Hahaha
DeleteThanks, Lina. Have a great Hari Raya with your family and loved ones!
Deletehappy blog holiday! here's hoping the time spent not writing posts will be filled with happier food outings - maybe some good penang or kelantan or malaccan food :D
ReplyDeleteThat sounds very positive!
DeleteThey definitely have spoil the Ipoh name "indirectly!"... Yes, I would be pissed off too... had experienced that before but cannot remember, my friend would have the said "Boycott" word whenever we come across these type of eatery shops. Anyway, as you said Sempena Hari Raya, let's not allow that to spoil the festive mood... LOL... Happy Breakaway From Blogging... I had been doing that lately! My posts are certainly not up to date!
ReplyDeleteI must make a trip to Ipoh one day lah and get the real deal heh..heh... Yup, will be enjoying the blogging break but will still come out and comment.
DeleteBeen wanting to watch movie and we asked the kids to choose. Aladdin or Godzilla. The kids opted for Godzilla. I thought they would choose Aladdin but I never thought they didn't want that and go for Godzilla! But tickets are sold out for both and we didn't go to any last weekend.
ReplyDeletePoor you. Really not a great day. Some day, it is like that. Hope you feel better during Raya holiday.
I find both Godzilla and Aladdin not very good. Between the two, Aladdin is better. But I think your kids would most likely find Godzilla and the monsters more exciting. LOL!
Deletenot the first time I experienced this....I will usually walk off when seeing no one bothering me after 10 minutes...but sometimes I can tell from the staff's expression when I walked in during their busy hour...I immediately walk off without wasting my time there. The burger looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeletePlaces that have that type of attitude don't deserve our business. Boycott!
DeleteSo sorry about your bad day and some more with "Ipoh Place"! I think we have all experienced such bad service at some eateries. If I am in a gracious mood, I will self service with the menu and signal to the servers. But there are times when their attitude and service is very bad and I will "boycott" that place as Claire has mentioned. Lol!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I have boycotted!
DeleteUggh. It doesn't matter how good the food is, it can never make up for bad service. Happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteExactly! Happy holidays to you too :)
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your bad day but luckily at last your burger looked great!
ReplyDeleteThe burger made my day but the service was not so great hah..hah...
