Chiak Hamik?

Chiak Jepun, kah? (Eat what? Eat Japanese?) That was my partner asking me what I wanted to eat on a Friday evening.

Actually, yes, I wanted Japanese but since he is always so accommodating, I decided to eat what he prefers to eat. So off we went to Restoran Yik Kee@TTDI for rice and dishes.

We were early and managed to get parking near the restaurant. As usual, we ordered four dishes and the auntie server stopped us at three. Enough already she said. But we assured her that we were good with four.

I must have my chili padi but I abstained from the chopped garlic because somebody complained about my garlic breath the last time.

This brinjal with minced pork and salted fish was my favorite dish of the evening. Totally yummilicious. I can just eat this with rice.

Just like last time, we ordered the sweet and sour fish. I loved this too.

The taufoo was ordinary. Deep fried and served plain on some sauce. It was just OK for me.

This was my least favorite for the evening. The pork slices were coated with a sweetish sauce that had too much five spice powder. It was overpowering >.<

When we were done, the auntie server walked past and cast her eyes over our empty plates. We have made our mark and she'll not bat an eyelid the next time we visit.

  1. Do go again and order 4 dishes. If it is the same lady see whether she suggests you all order 3 dishes instead. I will go for the sweet and sour fish.

  2. OMG! This aunty must have suspected both of you are from DBKL. Next time try to increase to 5 dishes since both of you easily polished the 4 plate of dishes.
I have not eaten there yet and you have convinced me that the food is good. Parking is the main issues for that whole blocks of shops.

  4. That tofu block is silken tofu, right? I recognise it from the shape. It amazes me how they managed to unmould the super soft tofu out of the box without breaking it (I fail each time)...and then deep fry it without it breaking apart! O_o That's some mad skill...hihihi! :D

  6. No wonder! Looking at your first pic, that sure does not look like Japanese. I like it when they tell us not to order anymore - we do not know how big the servings will be...and they will always advise that we can order more if we think we have not had enough. Very kind of them - many will wish you would order more and more, never mind that you cannot finish as long as you fork out the money.

    1. True true. At some places, their serving size is huge and it's good to be warned.

The eggplant dish did looked super appetizing. Pity the pork rib didn't fit your tastebuds.

    1. Five spice powder can be overpowering if put too much.

  10. I love brinjals and that looks good. The pork ribs looks good though, and I don't like dishes with overly sweet sauce! I like savoury and spicy dishes!
