Family Mart

I never knew about Family Mart until I read about this Japanese convenience store from TM's blog. Fast forward a few months later I walked to my regular Cosway stockist only to discover that they have closed down.

In its place was this.

This is where Cosway used to be.

Family Mart has come to Damansara Uptown. When I walked in, there were so many people packed into that little shop space. Everyone seemed excited. After a brief look see, I left.

Then just some days ago when I went to the bank, I saw another Family Mart.

This one was not crowded and I walked inside to have a look.

Wah, got dim sum!

And these hot snacks on sticks.

And I finally had a close look at these. Oden. I have seen many people eating this at the Family Mart over at the other side. It seems rather popular.

Oh my! Pre-packed food. I usually can't resist these.

And rows and rows of sandwiches!

And cakes and desserts too!

Oh! Salads.

I did not walk out empty handed. How could I?

Heh..heh... I bought a slice of banana cake and brownie.

I'm afraid I did not like the cake (in spite of it being made with fresh bananas) because there was too much banana essence in it. The smell was overpowering.

But the brownie was surprisingly good. It was moist (though it looked dry) and very chocolaty with bits of chocolate in it.

I was very tempted to walk away with one or two of these too. But no....

I guess if I am feeling peckish, Family Mart would be the place to get a quick bite to to eat.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that you can buy soft serve ice cream here too. There are two flavors - Matcha and Cheesecake. That will have to wait another day :)

  1. Japanese? My girl would love this place. I wonder if they will open an outlet here. 7 Eleven mushrooming all over these days.

  2. there are two family marts in uptown? they seemed to appear everywhere. I saw one family mart in SS2, PJ. Hope they can stay for long. So far I have eaten 3 oden sticks and all the types of soft serve ice creams. The oden is not bad but I find it quite expensive. The soft serve ice creams are cheap and tasty.

  5. As time is always short I'm attracted by convenience food. I just hate seeing all of that plastic though. I find I can't even get fresh fruit and veg in the supermarket these days without it being pre wrapped in plastic. I know the wet and farmers markets are the way to go when I bring my own bags, but really, it's hard to find the time to go.

    1. I agree with you about the plastic but I guess it's the cheapest and most convenient packaging.

  6. Yes, I've been seeing quite a few of these marts lately but I'm very disappointed to see that they're stocked with more local food and goods than Japanese stuff. I think the two cakes you bought are probably Malaysian-made, one even has BM words on it...wakakakaka! :D If I were to buy anything from there, I make sure I go for the Japanese items only...after all, this is suppose to be a Japanese convenience store, no? Hehe! ;)

  7. Whoaaaa!!! I am surprised that they have 2 Family marts in Uptown today. I bet they will open another 2 to make it NSEW directions for better Feng Shui. Wakakakaka You should visit Japan soon and see how well & popular their Family Marts are. They sell oinks, X-rated mags and lots of branded parfums like CK, Dior, Gucci, Hugo Boss etc etc...

Your salad photos are tempting as they added chicken & turkey meat! I like. I have been eating their green ice cream cones and everyone agreed that the ice creams are definitely air flown directly from Japan! It tastes exactly and yummilicious! When I see their Ice Cream, I would scream! I scream! I scream!
I also bought their assorted onigiri as they seems petite and easy to bite to fill my stomach. I have been hopping onto the MRT trains often to get to the city as the MRT bus is right at my door step.

The Nihon guys are swarming into our country now with all their Family Marts and Wellness stores! Banzai!

  13. Items being sold here are quite attractive if compared with other convenient stores (Malaysia standard) but I must say that the prices are not really cheap though :(
One thing I don't like about Family Mart is the smell of the Tom Yum oden is too strong, not really comfortable when shopping inside =.="
