It was unfortunate that this visit to Huang Soy Bar, Damansara Kim happened on a particularly stressful Saturday (this happened many months ago).
Actually, I had no idea it was going to be a stressful Saturday afternoon until my Soya Seri Muka and Sago Pudding was served.
Let's start from the beginning.
You order and pay at the counter. This was where I sat. The counter is at the front and you can see it as soon as you come to the top of the stairs.
As soon as I was served, a message come through from the nursing home. We had visited earlier and that morning dad was experiencing bleeding (like back in 2023).
Dad wanted to talk to me. So I asked the nurse to call me (dad does not have a mobile phone and refused to learn how to use one, thus causing much inconvenience).
Dad asked me to tell my brother to bring him medicine and a pair of slippers. Pronto! Of course I wasn't going to disturb my brother. I told dad that I would take care of it.
This Sago Pudding (pretty much Sago Gula Melaka) was lovely. But under the circumstances, I was not able to properly enjoy my dessert.
I quickly rushed through it, walked to the pharmacy (for the medication) and Mr DIY (for the slippers). Then I got my partner to help rush me to the home.
When I got there, the nurse discovered that there were two strips of the medicine that dad wanted in his cupboard. Well, there is no harm having extra.
After making sure that dad was OK and assuring him not to worry and to rest and relax, my partner and I left.
When you are at this stage in your life where one or both your parents are in poor health, you have to fulfill your obligations and responsibilities. Just as much as your parents sacrificed their time and money for you when you were growing up, the time will come for you to do the same for them in their time of need.

Poodie, please make sure you know how to climb down. Or else Ah Ma will have to call the Abang Bomba!
True, I wouldn't be enjoying the food under such duress....really a stressful day.
ReplyDeleteYes, totally lost my appetite. But I will go back there again to enjoy what I had, hopefully in peace hah..hah..
DeleteIt's like heart attack each time receiving calls from the nursing home. Sincerely wishing your dad to be ok.
ReplyDeleteThat's right! No news is good news. Thank you, my dad is well so far.
DeleteI have to count my blessings everyday because I know that there are those who Kais pagi makan pagi, Kais petang makan petang, so they wouldn't be able to do what you mentioned here even though they may want to do so very badly because they themselves also are finding it difficult to make ends meet for themselves.
ReplyDeleteWe all do. We have to count our blessings and not complain too much. Appreciate and cherish what we have, no matter how little!
DeleteAh, poodie is such a brave girl, can go up and down the tree on her own. No need Bombay to rescue her. Good that grandma has a large tree for her to climb.
ReplyDeleteShe takes after her mama and now both of them climb here and there.
DeleteHhmmm, this Huang Soy Bar looks like a very nice place to while away the time. Thank you for featuring it. I see when I can go there to visit. Thanks again. The food desserts look ๐
ReplyDeleteIt's a quiet and cosy place to hang out.
DeleteIt's very wise of your dad to do without a smart phone as it only gets scam calls most of the time. At least the nursing home has your contact number they and your dad can recognise your number and voice.
ReplyDeleteMy contact would be via the nurse, Sometimes she records my dad's requests and sends to me.
DeleteI must go get my sago gula melaka dessert fix one of these days. Busy with work these days and how time flies. Playful poodie.
ReplyDeletehah..hah.. it's a very nice dessert!
DeleteThe desserts look good - I sure would love to try those. Hope your Dad is all right now. I know the feeling - like everytime I get a call from the elderly care centre where my missus is staying, my heart will drop down to my toes!!!
ReplyDeleteMy dad is all right so fat, thanks. I know what you mean! No news is usually good news. I hope that your missus is making a good recovery.
DeletePoodie is a brave girl & knows how to climb tree & get down safely. Good girl :)
ReplyDeleteShe is very gung ho and can climb everywhere.
Deletepoodie would be my good buddy in climbing trees. I would climb that tree too if i ever have a huge tree in my garden...lol! both the soy milk and sago dessert look tasty.
ReplyDeleteOh, so you like climbing trees! You and Poodie very ngam. LOL!
DeleteSince the soy desserts are good, hopefully one day you'll be able to revisit and enjoy them unhurriedly.
ReplyDeleteYes, I intend to hah..hah...
DeleteYou gave me a fright when you said you got a call from the nursing home...ah, it was just to get something your dad needed! :D What is a soya seri muka....seri muka ingredients in a soya bean drink?
ReplyDeleteIt is very frightful whenever a calls come through from the home. Luckily it is not frequent hah..hah... Maybe the named it Soya Seri Muka because the flavors are akin to the kueh.
