Happy Birthday Pa!

By the grace of God, my dad made it to his 82nd birthday today. Happy Birthday, Pa!

May God bless you with the best health possible under the present circumstances. And may we be blessed with your presence for as long as the Lord permits. Amen.

My brother went and bought four lovely slices of cake to celebrate. I didn't eat any because I was saving my carb quota (just in case) for something else.

My family is happy that dad made it this far. We don't know how much time he still has with us and we are grateful that he is still here today.

Though dad is now house bound, he is able to sit up and to stand with the aid of a walker and march on the spot. He is also able to walk a few steps around the bed. Little achievements like this mean so much to us. Mentally he is still very sharp.

Late morning my brother and I headed off to lunch and that story will be in my next post.

Now let's see what I ate yesterday heh..heh...

Ribeye on the left and sirloin on the right.

I used my cast iron pan because the pan was used earlier to fry up some sausages. So might as well use the hot pan to fry up the steaks. The splatter guard is really handy and effective. My stove top is no longer oily and messy.

I did not achieve a good sear because I did not adequately dry the surface of the steaks. I will do better next time.

Just 2 minutes per side for medium rare.

I also threw in a few cloves of garlic. Next time must put more because garlic is so delicious.

Yes, I ate both steaks. I am such an animal. Those two pieces weight almost 500g. I once went to a lunch hosted by a client (he runs a restaurant) and he ordered me a Wagyu steak. Then he asked me "Is 100g enough?" Please, don't make me laugh lah.

Oh ya. The sausages I bought from The Butcher's Table.

To cook, you boil up some water. Then drop the sausages into the boiling water, off the fire and leave it covered for 10 minutes.

Then pan fry for 3 minutes on each side. No, these I did not eat and they are meant for another day (to save time).

The steaks were for my OMAD and I did not feel hungry at all in the evening.

All that washed down with my DIY kopi C ais kosong. My kopi C tastes just as good as the one from Donald's shop and better than the one from the Kaw Kaw Kopi truck.

  2. Happy Birthday to your Papa. His ability to move around is certainly a great joy to everyone in your family. He seems to be improving slowly but surely.

I miss eating good sausages. I have been planning a list of food menu to cook for buddies soon. I will add sausages which I missed out.

Sausages are so convenient to cook for a crowd. Your buddies will love sausages!

  3. When I first saw both steaks, the first question that crossed my mind was "did she eat both steaks" or "one is for later". Whoa, 500g is too much for me. But your client who 'belanja' you to 100g and ask you if that's enough is indeed laughable...even I can handle 250g!

Oh, so you boil the sausages first before pan-frying. I once bought these raw sausages and cooked it on the pan immediately and ended up with uncooked sausages (and never bought them again). P/S: Wow, your kopi c kosong tastes better than Kaw Kaw Kopi truck?...then please share what brand you're drinking.

    1. LOL! I can eat!

I used to think it is so strange to boil sausages (saw that in the instructions of earlier sausages I bought) and once I tried it, it is actually a good method. I used to pan fry or air fry directly and like you, ended up with undercooked sausages or overcooked until it was hard. This time, pan fry after immersing in boiling water, the sausages turned out perfect!

I use Ah Huat kopi o, the one without added sugar and I add Ideal evaporated milk. It tasted good to me lah but don't know if it will meet your standards.

  4. Happy birthday to your father! Very good that he makes the extra effort to walk around the bed and walk on the spot to exercise. ๐Ÿ‘
