Bak Kwa Sandwich

Today I did not do any cooking. I opted for the simplest thing - sandwich!

I still had two sourdough bagels in the freezer (the last of my stash) and many slices of bak kwa.

My partner bought the one on the left (Pearl Pork) while the one on the right was gifted by my brother. Both are individually wrapped.

I was just a matter of toasting the bagels and putting the bak kwa in between the slices of bagels.

I have not eaten bak kwa sandwiches in a long time and I have forgotten how good it is! Both bak kwa were delicious. I can't remember the brand that my brother gifted me. It came in a small red box which I put away for recycling.

If there is one thing I can complain about both brands is the bak kwa were too sweet. If the makers could dial down on the sugar, it would be nice.

Then I had dessert.

heh...heh...heh...

This is the Queen of Heart Tau Fu Fah from the Taro Creme series. This is how it looks like in the menu.

I reckon if you dined in, the taro creme (which is basically a sweet taro paste) is piped in the shape of a rose. For delivery, the taro creme comes in the form of a blob. Even if it was piped, it would go out of shape.

I made the right decision to opt for no sugar because the taro creme was very sweet.

It was so filling. Next time I will have this as a main meal.

  1. Bagels! I do the same with our kompia - sandwich bak kua in between and eat. I am eating Loong Kee - not too sweet. In fact, I thought it is rather salty. I also have the mala-flavoured ones, also salty - my girl's friend gave her TWo packs! I sure would love that Queen of Heart Tau Fu Fah - no place selling that here. Sighhh!!!!

    1. I'll have to try Loong Kee then, since you say it's not too sweet. I would love to try the mala flavored ones if I can find them.

    1. It's so good right?! I have to buy bread or bagels to eat the sandwich again. Haiya...I am addicted to that expensive dessert. LOL!

  3. I don't have bagel and the kompia all eaten. I have home made bak kwa which is less sweet so we just ate the bak kwa on its own. I love bak kwa sandwich. I love to have it for breakfast or even lunch. Your dessert looks so good. There is none selling in my area.

    1. How nice that you make your own, then you can adjust the seasonings to your taste.

  4. Hey, this is not the bak kwa sandwich as I know it (as those usually come smothered in sauce and chicken floss...kekeke!). This is more like an "atas punya" bak kwa sandwich...that comes in between two slices of atas sourdough bagels...lol. Bak kwa that's already too sweet for you is certainly not for me.

    1. I wanted to add things like fried eggs to it but then, aiya, lazy lah! LOL! I still have many slices of bak kwa in the freezer, so there will be future sandwiches and I might add some other ingredients to it.

  5. Have you tried sanbanto bak Kwa? I bought a pack for my spouse. He says they taste fine. I didn't eat them. Your bakwa bagels look tasty. Your tofufa looks so tasty. Hope one day I can try them.

  6. This year is the first time we ever received almost 10 packets of Bak Kwa as CNY gifts. We had to recycle and give them to others but kept just 3 packets for myself to slowly eat them with toasted bread and butter. Yummeh!
I would say Wing Heong is the best compared to BCH or HML. Can you guess which are BCH and HML?

    1. That is a lot of bak kwa! Ya lah, good to give it away since it is too much for you and your wife to finish. Alamak, I am not familiar with the brands so I have no idea what is BCH or HML.

  8. I can see you didn't put any sauce for your Bakwa sandwich, I like it this way too, "kosong" without any sauce because I don't like sloppy sandwich/burger.
2 TTF desserts shared by you, I can't tahan already lah, must Grab it later. =.="
