We Ate Like Cavemen : Texas BBQ@Solaris Dutamas

Today my brother and I headed up to Texas BBQ@Solaris Dutamas. We actually came here earlier to survey the location after we had lunch at Eatomo the other day.

The two of us have a thing for BBQ and we have been searching for a good one to indulge in our love for meat. Oh, we do love our veggies too, not to worry hee..hee..

It was quite hard to find this place initially but now that we know where it is, getting here today was a breeze. We parked right outside the restaurant.

Please be warned that parking is not free. Once you leave your car, someone will come and leave a receipt on your windshield. Do not faint, ya. You pay RM15.00 for the first 3 hours. We were caught unaware.

Where to pay? Don't worry, they will get you on your way out. Don't think that you can sneak away, the parking people will stop you on your drive out and collect cash.

There is nice outdoor seating with a nice view.

But with the weather being so hot in the day time, we opted to sit inside.

As with the new normal, we had to scan the QR code before entering.

My brother made reservations via Eatigo to enjoy 50% discount on selected items on the menu.

Our orders were (1) Mix 2 Smoked Combo (2-3 persons) consisting of 200g brisket, 200g pulled lamb, 1 chicken quarter, 1 mashed potato, 1 baked beans, 1 coleslaw and 2 soft bread (2) Beef Brisket (200g) (3) Brisket Salad and (4) Merguez sausage.

You will notice that we ordered a whole bunch of brisket because my brother was worried there won't be enough to go around.

For drinks we had a Long Black, Latte and Iced Lemon Tea. No, there was no third person. It was just the two of us heh..heh...

This is the Mixed 2 Smoked Combo. Alas, we forgot to specify that we prefer the chicken leg portion and hence ended up with the breast.

The Brisket Salad was simply a few salad leaves, two slices of brisket, mustard and a small portion of dressing. That was our quota of greens for the day.

Our additional order of brisket (there were 3 pieces).

The Merguez (lamb) sausage.

Whoa! So much food for 2 people. It was very meaty.

At the table you can help yourselves to the Dallas BBQ Sauce and Texas BBQ Sauce, both of which were pretty good.

What we loved most in the Mixed 2 Smoked Combo was the  beef brisket. It was outstanding - smokey, juicy and tender. The pulled lamb was pretty good too, not gamey and it was tender and moist. I was very pleased that the two buns were fresh.

The smoked chicken, we did not love so much simply because it was breast meat and it simply paled compared to the brisket.

The baked beans were disappointing because they tasted of Hoisin sauce (and too sweet) while the coleslaw, although crunchy, was lacking in taste. I thought the mashed potatoes were all right but my brother disagreed.

The lamb sausage was nice enough but it is something that we could source ourselves at certain supermarkets.

Our conclusion after this very meaty meal - it is worth coming here for the brisket, and my brother did well in ordering extras, perhaps a little too much but no regrets. How did my brother know the brisket is good?

On our look-see visit, he tapau some samples. He sent me photos with caption "OMG.. Brisket damn good... like bacony and fatty like that..."

We were too full for desserts but we left happy (except when we got the parking ticket hah..hah...)

Texas BBQ is also a place for those who love their minum-minum and yam seng-yam seng, judging from the many bottles of liquor at the counter.

That's my brother paying the bill, both of us accountants making sure that we got the discount hah..hah...

It past 6:00pm now and I am still full. I could skip dinner but I will still eat something light with my partner this evening.

  3. Wah, sounds like the brisket is the one to go for. They should have asked whether you all want which part of the chicken. So do you prefer this brisket to your home cooked steak?

    1. There were no signs to indicate that there are parking fees. Very sneaky. Next time we will park inside Publika!

  7. The RM15 parking ticket makes me faint. Have to pay up if you want convenient parking. Mouth watering meaty lunch. If it is not hot, outdoor seating would be nice to enjoy the view.

  8. It's good that you had a positive dining experience here since the reviews were very mixed. So I gather only the brisket is worthy. That sounds like too much meat for me in one sitting and I'd prefer better sides. It's good that you managed to get/use the 50% discount offered by eatigo. P/S: I've learned that good things are never cheap (as in super convenient parking right outside the restaurant would come at a price...lol!).

    2. Is it because it is car jockey service? There are car parking spaces in the usual publika car park which is normal parking rates, right?

  11. No to breast meat too. I had KFC that day and they gave me breast meat. What a meaty meal, good that you enjoyed the beef brisket.
