Lobster Nice Ah?

I have always been curious about Red Lobster and I did sound out to my brother that we should give this place a try. But we never did until now.

My partner was away and I can always count on my brother for a ride. So we took this opportunity to have dinner at Red Lobster@The Curve.

Just before he picked me up, I browsed for reviews and came across a particularly nasty one but that was from 2014. Then I checked what Kris had to say about Red Lobster and hey, she visited the same outlet in the same year but she had a good experience.

We were early as usual and there was only one other table occupied by a Japanese couple. Having studied the menu online, we made up our minds very quickly.

For drinks, my brother had the Mud Slide which is some sort of coffee drink with ice cream. Me, feeling guilty about my recent spate of carbo indulgence, stuck to mineral water. I tasted a bit of his drink and found it nice but a little too diluted.

My brother got us the Lobster Bisque to share. This choice was influenced by the photo on the menu that showed the bisque pregnant with lots of lobster bits. Well, as they say, never trust the photo. What we got was less generous. Tastewise it did not disappoint, just that I am not partial to creamy soups like this. It was too heavy for me.

These are the famous Cheddar Bay Biscuits which are refillable and on the house. Indeed they are as good as what has been reported by many. These biscuits are light and fluffy with a buttery cheesy flavor. In fact you can see bits of cheese inside. We did not ask for refills as we were not as hungry as we usually are. Perhaps we'll have more next time hee..hee...

For his mains, my brother picked the Lobster and Steak Burger.

It looked good. Why did he pick a burger? Just in case the lobster fell short and he'll have the burger for reinforcements. Insurance lah.

And this is the piece de resistance, the lobster tail.

I thought this Grilled Lobster, Shrimp and Salmon looked like a pretty good deal, so that's what I had. I was wondering if it's good for one or sharing. I found that it's definitely too much for one person especially that block of salmon.

My brother didn't want any so...... I did a Mun and took out my trusty container from my auntie handbag.

Half the rice and salmon went into the container.

OK, let's talk about the experience. First the lobster tail. Now, my brother and I have not really had a chance to fully appreciate lobster prior to this.

What I can say is that we were not disappointed as the lobster was very fresh and cooked just right. The flesh was firm and springy and yes, we liked it. However, we agreed that we enjoy prawns a lot more. Especially prawns cooked like this. So lobster is not like a big deal to us (especially at those prices).

What stood out for me was the salmon. The way it was cooked is outstanding. I loved the smoky flavors. The small shrimps served on a wooden skewer were pretty good as well.

What I did not like was the broccoli (cooked till very mushy) and the rice (too much butter and quite bland).

Well that wraps up our maiden experience at Red Lobster. Will we come back? Sure. But not so soon because dining  at Red Lobster puts our pockets in the red.

  3. Omg! That is sumptuous. Lobster must be fresh and sweet to enjoy it.

  4. I actually love eating seafood esp lobster. I had no idea why I developed allergy as I got older without knowing. One day I had Lobster Bisque at DeliFrance and had rashes attack on both arms instantly like bee stings. Later I realised I also got attacked while eating a certain sotong. Adoi!! I think as we aged, our immunity drops and various allergies would start from the toxic air until the clothes or perfumes we wear..

I like the way you said "I did a mun...." I wonder what is like for "I did a TM.......??"

    1. hee..hee... Go eat the salmon, it is very good. You will enjoy the shrimps too. I have seen copycat recipes for the biscuits. Maybe one day I will bake it. This savory biscuit is way nicer than the sweet one.

  9. Omg, I can't believe you found my post way back in 2014! O_o Well, I'm glad you had an experience like mine rather than the nasty one....haha! :D I also prefer prawns (large ones, of course) to lobsters as I find lobster meat can be a bit rich. I see the lobsters are cooked the same way with nice grill marks but I have to say your salmon looked a lot better than the one I had.

  12. I had RedLobster @ Intermark 3 years ago. Seems like their interior, servings and menu consistent throughout the outlet and still the same over the years. As for the services, I agreed with the 'nasty one', coz they are real slow and provide no updates on our orders....

  13. We went to the opening of the one in The Intermark. It was a long time ago and an event so I don't recall too much about the food.
