Big Ass Big Breakfast

One Friday morning I was very hungry. VERY. When I am this hungry, my brain goes into overdrive and I want to eat something big and fulfilling. And that has got to be a Big Breakfast.

It's too bad that Epicuro has disbanded their Damansara Uptown outlet. So sad. But there are other options in this area and I decided to check out the Big Breakfast at the newly opened Two Sons Bistro@The Starling.

This is my third visit due to the extensive menu and I want to try as many items as possible. My first visit was a disappointment (will write about it later) due to my choice of dish but on my second visit, I was quite pleased.

Let me show you what I had before I get into the Big Breakfast.

Thai Style Nasi Kerabu which was surprisingly very good considering that this bistro leans more towards western food.

The nasi kerabu and ayam percik were more than decent and I loved what went into the rice - kerisik, raw vegetables and aromatic herbs. Highly recommended.

Now back to the Big Breakfast. It's called the Big Breakfast Platter. You have a choice of sunny side up/scrambled/poached eggs and beef or turkey bacon. I opted for sunny side up and beef bacon.

After the server took my order, I kinda regretted and wished that I had opted for poached eggs instead.

When the Big Breakfast Platter was served, the server had a worried look on his face. I reckon it could be due to (1) the kitchen served me poached instead of sunny side up eggs or (2) the platter was so huge, he was worried I might pengsan or both.

Then he asked me if I was OK with the eggs and I indicated that it was fine and waved him off. Then I had a good look at the huge plate in front of me. Yes!! This is my kind of serving size hah..hah...hah...

So. I got what I wished for, the poached eggs.

I take it that the yellow sauce is Hollandaise sauce as it had a buttery and vinegary taste. Then I cut into the eggs.

They were nice and runny but the eggs were cold (chilled) and the whites had a slight rubbery texture. I reckon this was prepped ahead and chilled in the fridge.

Among the other items on the platter were sauteed mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, hash browns and chicken sausages.

The sausages were ordinary while the mushrooms were buttery. The hash browns, I liked very much.

And then there were baked beans, beef bacon and salad. I did not like the baked beans because it was in some sort of creamy sauce and I also did not like the addition of Italian basil. The beef bacon was OK while the salad, dressed in balsamic vinegar, was very tart.

Portion wise, this Big Breakfast Platter gets 5 stars from me but taste wise, it fell short. But still....

Can you spot the Italian basil that I isolated to the side?

This auntie can eat, OK? Don't play play. This platter can easily feed two itsy bitsy eaters or more.

They thought there were 2 of me.

With a very full and somewhat happy stomach, I went for a walkabout to walk off some calories. Yeah, like it works heh..heh...heh...

  1. I sure would love to try that Thai nasi kerabu and as for the Big Breakfast, I'd have that...anytime. The sausages look kind of sad and wrinkled though and I would love ham and pork bacon - those bak kua-looking ones look like beef slices - my girl love those.

  3. Yup, when I saw the pic of your BB, I thought the only thing going for it was the BIG size! ;D Based on the looks, I'd probably appreciate the eggs (but cold eggs are a no-no!) and beef bacon and that they tried to do something different to the mushrooms and baked beans. But I probably wouldn't like the processed sausages and hash browns. Thanks for the look of this BB...I think I'd rather spend RM35 on some other more worthy BB...kekeke! ;)

So, a score of 1 out of 3 doesn't bode well for this place....haha! :D I probably wouldn't return after the first disappointment...but that's just me.

  5. How come your Nasi kerabu's rice is not blue colour?
You just scared me with the amount that you could eat. Your DBKL tong is quite big capacity. Pengsan me!

    1. I don't know why they were wrinkled. Sunny side up eggs would have been better but now I know the standard of their poached eggs.

    1. Perhaps you can have a nasi kerabu session when you find a restaurant that serves it :)

  15. price is good for such a big platter but I don't like that much sauce/gravy for the beans and no sauce for mushrooms for me please. I am more interested in the greens - is that the salad you were referring to? what kind of greens are those?

    1. Yes, I do wish they did not make it so saucy as it made my bread (under the eggs) soggy. The salad was made with some sort of mixed greens. Did not like the dressing :(
