A Carnivore Meal at On Chicken Rice, Damansara Jaya

I did say that I would visit On Chicken Rice in 2026 and I did.

I was there Friday after visiting mum.

Looks like I can't have datenite here as they open only up to 4:00pm.

I was there around 12:00pm and there was already a healthy crowd.

No rice for me so I selected from the ala carte section.

The ice Kopi C (no sugar) was pretty decent and would score a perfect 10 with a bit more C (more milk).

Condiments on the table - light soy sauce, ginger paste and chili dip.

They also provide a tub of hot water for you to sterilize (though the water was not really hot enough) your cutleries.

This is the quarter chicken (lower portion). Portion size is PH approved LOL!

Same for the BBQ Pork and Roast Pork (small portion).

I am as honest as it gets. Taste and preference is subjective, so please do not be influenced by my opinion.

The chicken was missing the succulent tender silky feel (or am I being delusional) that I experienced before at some chicken rice places. I found the meat a tad on the dry side and even though this is the lower quarter, it felt more like the breast portion. The sauce did not make an impression.

As for the roast pork and BBQ pork, what I can say is that they were not out of the ordinary.

The ginger paste and chili dip was lacking in punch. The ginger taste and aroma was weak while the chili dip would have benefitted from the addition of calamansi lime (limau kasturi)  juice.

You'll have to come and taste to judge the food for yourself. I'll say that I am happy that I came here for my first 2026 carnivore eat-out meal.

I wish On Chicken Rice every success and I hope that they enjoy the support of the Damansara Jaya residents.

  2. I have eaten a fair bit of kampung chicken and the meat is always firm 💪 from exercises. Never succulent tender silky feel 😂

    1. Ah yes, the meat is firm but I have eaten smooth ones that are moist. Let me go some place else and make a comparison.

  3. Actually, for poached chicken, smoothness (or as you say, silky feel) is key besides having a fragrant soy+oil sauce, so not having either = not good. I take it that this will be your first & last visit? Sometimes, just a normal stall in a coffee shop can be a better find for roasted meats & poached chicken.

    1. You are right, since it didn't meet my expectations, I may not return. I want to go try the chicken at another restaurant in DU which I haven't visited in a while and report back. The stalls at the coffee shops here don't serve kampung chicken or else I would definitely give it a try.

    2. Oh, you don't get poached kampung chicken at your roasted meat stalls...here I've aplenty coz many stalls now also give you an option for kampung chicken especially if they're specialising in poached chicken rice & noodles and in some roasted meat stalls.
