Love Yourself. Eat Well.

Just recently, my mum told me that my brother (the married one) remarked (after he visited my blog) that "Sis eats very well even though she said she has no money".

This money issue came up when my siblings and I had to make a monthly contribution (that equaled twice my gross monthly salary) towards my (late) dad's medical fund. I had to eat into my savings and bank overdraft facility to finance the contribution.

Thankfully it was only for a period of six months. Well, bro, if you are reading this post, the reasons why I can afford to spend lavishly on food (in spite of my meagre salary) is because :

1. I don't go for holidays, local or overseas.

2. I don't wear designer/expensive clothes/shoes. I only buy new ones when the current one is torn/worn out.

3. I don't carry designer/expensive handbags. Mine are purchased via Lazada and they cost below RM50. Again, I carry the bag until it is broken/worn out.

4. I don't go for facials or beauty treatments. I save a lot there.

5. I don't wear makeup and I don't use any beauty products.

6. I don't have children. So I do not need to spend on their education and neither do I have to fund their lifestyle.

What else, eh? Oh ya.

7. I am not on prescription medication which can be quite costly.

And, yes, credit cards help me to delay payment and that's how I support my lavish eating habits.

Besides, most of the time I eat cheap beef trimmings and when I do intermittent fasting, I save money on food.

So there you have it.

Just because I run my own practice it does not mean that I make tons of money. I don't. Many people have this incorrect view that those who run their own business make loads of cash.

Not true. Some do and some don't. In fact, in some situations it is better to be employed. You can look forward to increments and bonus. For example if you work for a bank or a big corporation. The salaries and bonus of senior staff is incredible. In fact the not-so-senior staff earn more than I do.

If you are your own boss, you may end up a "pengarah dan penyapu" (like I am, a director cum cleaner ie you have to run your own errands).

I rest my case.

Among my sole luxury is eating a Korean BBQ at Gu On, The Starling when I feel like it. Of course not everyday.

I eat well to age well. I don't want to become frail, diseased and end up as an inconvenience when I am old. I don't have children and therefore I have no one to inconvenience anyway.

That day I had the Smoked Pork Belly, Beef Flap and Pork Intestines.

The intestines were very tasty.

Very smokey and crispy. I avoided the sauce and powdery stuff simply because I don't like the taste.

The kimchi is good and whets the appetite!

I took a photo of this rosebud a few days before it bloomed.

It's nice to observe the progress.

Hello beautiful!

Life is good even if I don't earn as much as other people. Amen hallelujah!

  1. Beautiful photos, dear friend. Can I add one more thing to your list? Not sure if you do or not, but if you don't smoke, that in itself is a money saver as well as good for your health.
I am on prescriptions but here in Canada, Medicare covers a good part of the cost, thankfully.
The food in your photos looks delicious πŸ˜‹

    2. I also have a lot in common with both of you. I even cut my hair on my head myself. πŸ˜‚

    3. Linda : LOL! Smoking is like burning money and ruining your lungs. Good for you that you neither smoke nor consume alcohol. Alcohol is no good for our brain and liver.

  2. Dear, it is not how much you earn, it is how much you feel grateful and happy with how much you have. Thanks for sharing the photos of the gratifying food and lovely roses. There are many things people will not understand unless they go through it themselves. And there are people who judge by what they see on the surface. Not many people have wisdom. Like Linda, I don't smoke and I don't do alcohol, that alone saves up a lot of money and I am not impulsive in my purchases as I know there are many temptations out there and people outside they do not care at all, they just want to earn your money, so I am disciplined and I know when to delay gratifications, but I do spend on eating good and eating well.

    1. You are absolutely right! I am glad that we share the same thoughts and philosophy. Many people still measure success in terms of earning capability. If you earn a lot, that means you are successful. My criteria for success is beyond money. There is more to life than that.

  3. πŸ«‚ I agree with you that we must treat ourselves well by eating well. So it is worth it, not going on holidays and not owning designer items but eat well. πŸ’•
