Big Jam On Datenite

Friday evening saw me and my partner back at Grub By Ahong & Friends, Section 17.

I wanted to eat steak and I thought it would be a good idea to revisit. The traffic from Damansara Uptown to Section 17 was smooth.

Like the previous visit, we were again lucky to get a parking spot in front of the shophouse.

We shared a warm tumbler of (refillable) filtered water.

Fat Samosas to share. I thought these were rather good but my partner found the samosa "too spicy" (spice flavor too strong). So I had two and I loved the accompanying green chutney.

This is my NY Strip served with a leaf salad and potato salad with a side of honey mustard.

The steak was done to medium rare and that was a very good meal for me.

My partner had the Duck & Sundried Tomatoes Olio. After his first bite, he said the duck was not fresh and asked me to taste a piece.

I thought it was all right except that it tasted like Teochew braised duck hah..hah... After a few mouthfuls, he said the the duck was OK, it was only the first piece that tasted off.

After our meal, we walked across to the opposite shophouse to 99 Speedmart.

I saw these rose plants. After that we made our way home. That was when we got stuck in a major traffic jam. The cars were moving at snail's pace.

My partner changed route and yet we were stuck for almost an hour. Ugh! That is why we are not too keen to venture out of Damansara Uptown. So I told my partner, our future datenites will be closer to home hah...hah...

I caught this nice number on my pageviews. Chinese people love the number 8 because (in Chinese) it sounds like "prosper".

To my readers, thank you very much for visiting my blog. Your visits really make my day!

Are there any fans of Simon's Cat?

You can watch Simon's Cat on Youtube here. It never fails to amuse me.

  1. Wow! The steak 🥩 you ordered looks really delicious but I suspect my weak teeth wouldn't be able to handle it. Getting stuck in an one hour jam is really not fun at all.
That's why my spouse also won't drive to anywhere during peak office hours unless really necessary.

    1. The steak did require some chewing. Traffic jam can spoil our day - my girls were not pleased to eat dinner late. LOL!

Thank you for explaining the meaning of this in Chinese...or at least what it sounds like! A heartfelt and deep thank you for mentioning my blog as well, it really means a lot to me!
And I wish to thank you as well for your kind comments and support over the last several months!

  5. Phong Hong, Ahong restaurant is calling you. I like the leafs salad and potatoes 🥔 salad for Vitamin C and a filling stomach. It was a Friday night TGIF so jam was kind of expected. I have a driving license and I have just bought two cars (cars in hokkien mean legs, muahahaha!). You can check with your Penang Lang Partner hee hee.

  6. Sorry to hear that you and your partner were trapped in a jam, no joke really, how if someone had the toilet 🚽🪠 runs? First time I heard of Simon's Cat, thanks for sharing. And also other than the number 8 which Chinese like us already know it means and sounds like "prosper", there is a Chinese belief that when someone's age reach the number 9, be it 19, 49 or 69 you have to be cautious, cos it is the number before you cross over to the next age span which is in my examples 20, 50 or 70. It is not superstitious, it's real, I had seen some cases before.

    1. Oh ya, that last digit 9, the person will experience some kind of challenge eg health issues etc.

  9. So, their steaks are still good? Well, it's worth it to brace the traffic a bit to indulge in some good food? P/S: I think he must have an Indian chef working in the kitchen looking at the samosas & mint chutney as I believe they also have a starter of panipuri on their menu.

    1. Their steaks are reasonably good but to go through the jam, hmmm... not lah LOL! The staff there are (mostly?) Indian, so the Panipuri and Samosas are quite good.
