Yesterday, I did not bring lunch to office because I was tired of my own cooked food heh...heh... So I had to go out and look for something suitable to eat.
I went to Public Bank first to deposit two cheques and because of that I passed by 282 Mixed Rice where there is a chicken rice stall run by a Myanmar couple.
Hong Kong Style Barbequed Chicken Rice. Whether this is betul-betul Hong Kong style or not, that I cannot vouch. Judging from the numerous packets of chicken rice that the lady was packing, I assume that this stall is quite popular and therefore the chicken rice must be fairly good.
I stopped by to check the menu and as far as meat only, they only listed whole roasted chicken and whole roasted duck. So I asked the lady if I could buy 1/4 roasted chicken and a strip of siew yoke.
She consulted the guy who was chopping chicken (whom I assume is her husband) and my order came to RM24.00 which I thought was very reasonable.
So there you go, my lunch, which I could not finish. I ate all the chicken and some of the siew yoke and had the leftovers for dinner.
What I can say is that the chicken and siew yoke were very fresh, moist and tasty. Loved it! So now I know I can come and tapau from this stall. I must try their char siew and duck next time.
I forgot to say that I did not want sauce but just as well I got the sauces so that I can say something about it. The chili dip was decent, not the best that I have tasted and it was very pedas. I liked the soy sauce and I thought it was very nice.
I went for my inspection at The Starling and noted that Sopoong has called it a day. In its place will be Bask Bear Coffee that serves coffee and toasties.
I also passed by Seppia & Polpo.
I am actually dying for a ribeye but at these prices, cannot lah.
So I just make do with roast chicken and siew yoke lah.
quite reasonable price for such portion of siew yuk & chicken. The RM99 octopus leg must be fresh.
ReplyDeleteVery reasonable, right. I was shocked actually, expected it to cost more than that.
DeleteThat is a lot of siew yuk! Rm24 is a steal. They sell one roast chicken for MYR 55 so quarter bottom part chicken should be MYR 14 so that big portion of siew yuk is only MYR 10, good value for money. ๐Ah, sopoong is no more at starling. I wonder are they still at MyTown.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I expected to pay more than that. I wonder too about Sopoong. They seemed quite popular during lunch time.
DeleteThe roast chicken looks good! We'll be dining out this Chap Goh Meh (Sunday) and we're having roast chicken in the restaurant's set dinner menu. Hope it's good. I would have loved duck instead but my missus would not touch that!
ReplyDeleteI used to dislike duck too but now I love it!
DeleteShouldn't be hard to find food fits for carnivore!! No thanks to octopus leg!! I also want to pengsan seeing the price!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Mostly chicken rice shop is the most suitable. I dare not try octopus leg at RM99.
DeleteReasonable price for the portion of barbequed chicken and roast pork. Octopus leg is new to me. Jaw drop at the price!
ReplyDeleteYes, the price is so very friendly. I will wait for people to belanja me the octopus leg. LOL!
DeleteMyanmar couple selling Hong Kong-style chicken sounds humorous. That's actually a good price for a whole strip of siew yuk and a 1/4 chicken. The dine-in prices for the ribeye and Spanish octopus leg (or tentacle) sounds reasonable if it's good quality (btw, octopus leg if cooked right is really good!).
ReplyDeleteOh yes, a very friendly price, in fact I was shocked LOL! I don't mind paying for the ribeye for a special occasion but not so sure about the octopus leg.
DeleteThere's a chicken rice stall near my office which is operated by Myanmar couple (I guess) also, and the price is very cheap. I always get drumstick + Char Siew at RM8.50 only. :-) I never bother to check out Bask Bear Coffee as I'm not a coffee drinker but the toasties on the poster seem nice, maybe I should try out one day. :)
ReplyDeleteI was quite surprised to pay RM24 for all that meat especially the siew yoke is one whole strip.
