Aeon Wagyu Promotion

Last Sunday while shopping for groceries at Aeon, I spotted this Halal Japanese Beef promotion.

Of course I was curious. So I berkepoh-kepoh snap photos at the booth.

See (don't look at my reflection). They got Wagyu Bento. Some more 15% off.

They even have Rendang Wagyu and Wagyu Masak Hitam. I don't know about you but I think Wagyu should be enjoyed in its simplest form. I think it is wasted on rendang and masak hitam. I won't even consider a Wagyu Burger.

I have a thing for Bento boxes.

No lah. Didn't buy any. Looking at the prices, my Penang lang's eyes will roll roll in the sockets.

I didn't see anyone approach the booth. Maybe later there might be people who will consider making a purchase.

So I went home and cooked my regular ribeye steak.

My timing was about right, 2.5 minutes per side.

Turned out nice and juicy. No need to eat Wagyu lah (sour grapes mode on).

  1. The way you prepared your steak definitely a lot better than Rendang beef & beef Masak Hitam. LOL

    1. LOL! I can't imagine having Wagyu any other way. Such expensive meat not suited for rendang or masak hitam.

  2. I'm not into wagyu - it does not have that strong beef fragrance...plus it is VERY expensive! Just like my niece would say, without the smell, lamb is not lamb, not nice.

    1. I don't eat it often too. Too expensive.

  3. Wagyu will be wasted on me because I don't know how to enjoy pink meat.

  5. I tried once and that is enough to last me a lifetime. Maybe if I go to Japan I may eat it again. Your steak at home looks very good. Just two pieces for me will do after you have cut it up, thank you very much.

  6. I totally agree with you....wagyu is best eaten in its 'naked' form to savour the flavour of the meat! ;) Definitely will be lost in rendang and masak hitam styles. I think at such prices for the bentos, I'm not sure if there'll be many takers since they've been pre-cooked ahead of time and let to stand. If I have to pay a premium price for something like that, I'd want to eat it hot and right off the grill.

    1. Indeed! Wagyu should be enjoyed hot off the grill and seasoned with just salt. The way they are promoting it is like ordinary beef hah..hah...

  7. I really love to eat Wagyu beef! Only tried them twice and made me wonder why all the lembu in Malaysia cannot be wagyu?? Do they need special massage on the lembu?
