My Lahling's Cooking

As you may know, my partner is very capable in the kitchen. Simple food lah.

His favorite is porridge. I'm afraid I do not share his sentiments.

His pork porridge does look rather colorful, does it not?

This is his chicken with flat noodles.

He loves the flat noodles. This looks like carbonara sauce but I am positive that it is not.

Porridge again. This he cooked when he was in Penang.

Most times he likes plain porridge. He once complained that the porridge I cooked is not nice. Overcooked he said, until the rice grains all disintegrated. OK lah, in this case you sendiri cook.

His chicken noodle soup has been making the rounds quite regularly.

This is his chap fan. He must eat rice or some carbohydrates everyday.

His diet is very carbo-centric. But his metabolism handles it quite well.

Unlike his madam who puts on weight very easily on a steady diet of carbs. Isn't he lucky? Haiz...

  1. My hubby also, can stay in shape although he eats carbs (but not much also as he cut down since a few years back) but me, like your case, put on weight easily. ~>_<~ The most frustrated is I workout regularly and he doesn't!
I may suggest that your lahling can shorten the cooking time for the veggies as they looked like slightly overcooked in those photos. :P

    1. I think men generally have that advantage over us ladies. So unfair! Oh, I did not even notice he overcooked his veggies. LOL!

  3. Ah, means he doesn't like Cantonese congee where there must be no grains of rice to be seen and must be smooth smooth paste like. The congee he likes seems to be Teo Chew style where grains of rice can be seen floating in the broth. The flat noodles in the photos don't look like kway teow or hor fun. Is it made from wheat or soy flour? Which brand of flat noodles does he buy and prefer? I buy dried flat noodles made from wheat or soy flour to keep at home for my spouse to cook so it would be nice to know which brand of flat noodles your partner prefers.

    1. Yup, he did mention something about Cantonese porridge. I think the flat noodles are made from soy but I can't remember the brand.

  4. Easy food, everything toss into the porridge. My man also like porridge but can't eat much. Porridge can cause gastric apparently.

  5. i prefer my congee Cantonese style, smooth & not need to chew, like eating smooth paste. My mum sometimes made it colorful by adding in potatoes and carrots too.

  7. I'm afraid I do share your partner's love for porridge and my family does not share the same sentiment...lol. It looks like your partner likes Teochew style of porridge (where the grains are still visible) while I like Cantonese (I need the grains broken but not until it's like a paste like some especially Hongkong congee). But I love all the various dishes available from a Teochew porridge place (you can find a good one and you can have rice with the dishes while he enjoys his porridge). My man also must have carbs every day...and it's rice, not noodles. Haiz, why is it most families don't share the love of the same food...which makes it difficult sometimes to find common ground. That's why we order what we like ourselves and leave them to theirs...haha. P/S: Yes, I agree...women tend to put on weight more easily than men when we eat carbs...that's so unfair, isn't it? Lol.

    1. How true, right? My mum loves porridge but my dad hates it. LOL! My partner and I have been to Teo Chew Lor where he had his porridge while I had rice. He eats something like 3 bowls of rice or porridge and he stays at the same weight. Yup, very unfair. Haiz!
