Food Prepping Can Be So Sien

During the week I would conjure images of what I would prepare for my next week's food prep, semangat and all.

But sometimes on prep day, a heavy feeling comes over me and I want to change my mind (I want to lepak and watch Netflix instead). But I can't because I have already defrosted the protein and bought all my perishables. Haiz!

That's when I feel a small depression coming and I have to take a deep breath and calm myself down. This is the reason why I make sure that my food prep is not complicated. 

I prepare the same food for four days and ensure that the components can be prepared at almost the same time - one on the stove, the other in the oven, another in the air fryer and some not requiring cooking.

That's how I rolled last Sunday.


I made some sort of salad/poke bowl - pan fried oink oink for my protein, roasted broccoli (in the oven), roasted brinjals (in the air fryer) and raw veggies - pre-washed salad leaves,  sliced cucumber and tomatoes. The dressing is store bought - Kewpie Sesame Soy Sauce.


For dinner, as always very simple, one big pot of soup that can be consumed over several days. I never get tired of soup.


Meanwhile, elsewhere in the house, my two bodyguards were very bored.


As always, they sleep on the job.


And require some form of supervision.


One decided that her shift was over and settled comfortably in bed.


While the other simply dozed off on site, oblivious to the going ons around her.


Ah well. What to do?


Later she left her post and settled down in the living room.


This is daddy's sendiri cooked lunch. Mee suah with chicken and vegetables.


I must say that I really enjoyed my lunch today!

  1. That's sad! Obviously this pandemic is getting you down otherwise cooking can give us such joy...and eating it too, if it turns out great! Cheer up! Things can only get better...hopefully!

  2. I also have that feeling sometimes. Stressed and depressed of cooking. But thinking of my family, no choice, I need to march on.

    So sometime google online for new recipe, new food is my option.

  3. your salad/poke bowl looks colorful, but not my type...too many raw greens scare me away! LOL! the lockdown got everyone sienz even the cats too! hmmm....must be the hot weather!

  4. Your partner's Mee sua with chicken and veggies looks good, I like that. During the lockdown, I had not much appetite for food as dabao food can be sooooo....not tasty.

    1. Good that you overcome and end up with delicious and healthy homecooked food. Good for your wallet too. Lol. But once in a while if you need a breakkie, do take a rest, cooking takes a lot of efforts and needs the right mood. :p

  5. Love your very healthy salad poke bowl. I feel that way about cooking all the time. That's why I don't cook. Good that you push yourself to do it resulting in saving $$$ and having very healthy meals. Love your two bodyguards. So sweet to see them together. Yes, food prep can be very sien...but think of the next few days when you don't have to cook! ;) Your salad food prep is easier than mine since I have to keep my cooked proteins/veggies separate from the raw veggies. That's because you can eat your salad without reheating...I can't. I also never gets tired of soup...but not the same soup lah in a row...hah..hah. P/S: Ah, a job as your bodyguard has many perks...well fed, can sleep on the job and clock off work whenever one wants...lol! :D

  8. Your poke bowl looks good and delicious. Pan fried oink oink looks delicious. Mee suah with chicken and vegetable also look good. I love mee sua. I was so diligent during MCO 1.0 but got lazy after that. Nowadays, I will take leave on and off and tapau from outside. Bodyguards feeling bored because no one to manja or play with, mommy boss busy preparing food in the kitchen. Cannot go out kai kai, I will also feel bored. Sighhh.

    1. Thanks! The poke bowl was very satisfying but could use more vegetables hee..hee... Me too have mood swings when it comes to cooking. This week I am taking a break from preparing my food. Eat out! LOL!

  9. Life is suddenly so fragile to all of us. We are like walking on eggshells during this pandemic. We thank each day when we wake up & there's food on the table.

    You are eating very well and cooked such good prep meals. I have bought Family Mart's milk bread after reading EWEW'S post. So tasty bread and good to make quick toasted sandwich with Wing Heong's Bak Kwa or Cooked Ham and butter. Yummilicious wei.... Why Wing Heong's??? It is most popular with Hong Kong tourists in KL as they don't have nice Bak Kwa there.

    If your cats are bored, you can download special music for cats. Their mood will change and start dancing!

  10. How you store your big pot of soup for several days consumption? I think I need to learn from you this method, so that I can be lazy a bit on weekdays can no need to rush for cooking after my workouts.

    1. I store individual portions of the soup in glasslock containers. Can keep in the fridge for about 5 days, If I want to store longer, I keep in the freezer.
