Of Pineapple Tarts and a Meet Up

Before I talk about pineapple tarts, let me share that Belle Belle showed up again. I had put a cardboard box outside with the intention of sending it for recycling.

Next thing I know when I looked outside ....

Belle!!! This mommy was so overjoyed. I nipped outside to look at her.

She is liking the box.

Notice how comot her fur is and there is dark liquid oozing from her eyes.

But no. She didn't stay πŸ˜ͺ She disappeared again. My happiness was short lived. It's ok Belle. Whatever will be will be. Mommy is just happy that you came into mommy's life but you have taken a piece of mommy's heart with you. Go in peace Belle. Mommy will never forget you.

Last photo before she cabut again.

I must not be sad. As my friend said "chin up!" and chin up I shall!

Now pineapple tarts. Out of the blue on Sunday, I got a message from this girl who always cannot finish her food. She wanted to pass me some pineapple tarts. Oh! What a lovely surprise. So we agreed to meet at, where else, The Starling.

It was a brief meeting and she passed me this container of pineapple tarts. She is so petite and in her presence, I felt like a giant. No wonder lah you always cannot finish your food and must bring container hah..hah...

The tarts were pretty good except that I found the filling too sweet, though there were other opinions that it was all right and just nice. My partner thought it was all right, surprisingly. I thought he would have found them too sweet like I did.  From what I understand, the sugar content must be high in order to preserve it or else it will go bad fast.

It has been ages since I ate pineapple tarts and the first bite transported me back to my childhood days when these tarts were synonymous with Chinese New YearMany thanks again for taking the trouble to gift me these sweet treats.

This is Ah Girl on Monday morning looking very glum.

No wonder. It was only 4:40am and mommy was already snapping photos.

Yah. So sien early morning.

This was my lunch.

I prepped four containers of this on Sunday. Got rice, got oink oink, roasted tofu, roasted brinjals (buried underneath the broccoli), roasted broccoli, salad greens and cherry tomatoes. I even made a sauce to drizzle on my food. So this week, no eating out!

  1. We never knew what is in the mind of Belle but we do know she will come back once a while, may be she like to be FREE and do not want to be a house cat. One thing for sure , she knew if she do want to have a place she can trust, she will come home. To think of it, it was just like one of us, we grew up and we leave our home for a new venture of life knowing that we can always come back if we need a safe harbor to dock. Good day to you.

  2. Thank you for the meetup and also the healthy snacks and for this review of the pineapple tarts. Ah, I couldn't stop thinking of Belle Belle. Love your healthy bentos. Hahahaha, I don't believe you can't fit into chairs because you are slim, no big sized at all. Lolx. Good to see Ah Girl relaxing at home.

  3. Seeing the pics in your last two posts, I think I can offer an explanation as to Belle's behaviour (but that's just my opinion, not sure if it's correct though). Since you adopted her, she's been kept outdoors because of reasons you've mentioned already. And because of that, Belle probably thinks this isn't her forever home and behaves just like a stray cat where she comes and goes as she pleases and returning only for food. (I've been feeding a stray kitten of late and she comes for food every morning but does not linger after eating. Then she suddenly stopped coming for a week but returned this morning again for food). Further proof of that is the photo (sad as it may be) where she'll just sit right outside your main door (with Girl looking out from inside, Belle will think this household already has a cat and Girl is your cat and not her). :'(

Your experience with Belle has certainly taught me one thing...and that is if you don't let the cat live indoor (and bond with it) or put it in a cage (which they can call home), they won't think this is their home or you their cat mommy.

Seeing that she does come back occasionally for food when she's hungry...and that she likes to crawl into the box (all cats do as boxes give them a sense of security), I suggest you tip it sideways and put in some cloth or pillows so that she can come 'home' to a comfortable space to rest whenever she wants to. That's all you can do..provide her food and comfort when she needs it till the end of her days (which I still think is coming because of the look of her matted and unkept fur (all the time) as cats are known to not groom themselves if they're sick). So, this is a learning experience for you (and me too) in case you want to adopt another cat (next time), you have to give the cat a home indoors (for it to know this is HOME)...hah..hah! ;D Hope Belle comes back often for you to still catch glimpses of her and know she's still alright (and alive).

    1. I agree with ewew on this because when Belle was indoor fully in your previous posts, I believe it was written that she was very confident indoors and never make noise to be let out like Ah Girl. I think Belle is roaming because she wants to find a furever family who will let her be fully indoor. Oh no, I am crying now that I am typing this. I truly believe Belle needs good medical help to solve her skin and ears issue and get a full blood test to diagnose her condition. If all her health issues can be fixed, she will be a truly happy indoor housecat forever. If only I could go to Bandar Utama to look for her and get her to a reputable vet and then rehome her into a furever family to be a fully indoor cat. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

    2. Kris : I tend to agree agree with your opinion. Belle felt like a "step-child" and I feel guilty about it. I am waiting for the opportunity for her to come back for feeding and I will take her to the vet for a thorough assessment. She needs to be cleaned up and I will put her into a cage inside my house. I have to do right by her.
