Restoran Yuk Ming, SS2

Last weekend, my partner and I ventured to SS2 again in search of dinner. I was hoping to visit Madam Leow Penang Koay Chap but my partner decided otherwise.

Being a Penang guy, I reckon he has no faith in any restaurants outside Penang proclaiming to serve Penang food hah...hah...

So we went to Restoran Yuk Ming instead.

This place is rather old school with very simple decor and typical coffee shop furniture .

It is those "eat rice" restaurants that my partner favors.

It has been a while since we visited such eateries so it was a welcome change.

I hope the food is good. We saw many packages of takeaway food being brought out from the kitchen and many dine-in customers were arriving.

This restaurant has probably been here for a long time and enjoys patronage from residents staying in the neighborhood.

We ordered a herbal drink each and four dishes.

Fish fillet with ginger and spring onion.

My favorite, brinjals with minced pork.

Bittergourd soup.

Braised pork trotters.

Bon appetite! My partner siap-siap ordered an extra bowl of rice for himself heh...heh....

The food was not fantastic but reasonably good. I was happy but my partner's standard was a bit higher hee..hee...

I don't know if we would be back but I certainly would not mind returning.

I noticed another branch of Ipoh Kuey Teow Taugeh & Ayam along the same row and the restaurant was quite empty when we walked past after our dinner.

  2. Me and my mom love to visit such old school restaurants too, price and taste reasonably cheap and good. I would go for the Brinjal with minced meat and the soup, yums!

  3. I both love and hate eggplant. I love it when it's well cooked and soft, especially charred in the oven but hate it undercooked and rubbery.

  5. You like Sam Yu dishes better? The dishes here look tasty from the photos especially the fish fillet. What fish did they use for the fish fillets?

The dishes looked good to me. I am not choosy type. As long as decent and edible, I am ok.

  7. LOL to your partner ordering another bowl of rice siap-siap! Don't waste time, right? Could see that the claypot dish is still boiling when served!

  9. I've walked past this place many times but usually too early for rice dishes. That brinjal and minced pork is my fav too but the fish in that ginger onion fish looks a bit like dory...was it? I once ordered a sweet sour fish from a siew chow place and quickly changed it when the stall owner said they use dory! >_< Now that your partner is willing to come to SS2, you can work yourself slowly down that street as there are quite a few good eats there (like my fav dim sum place and the rather decent wantan mee at Chan Meng Kee).

    1. You could be right about the fish because I remember it was soft, like the texture of dory. No wonder my partner disliked it. Yes, I am hoping to explore more of the restaurants at SS2. Chan Meng Kee is my dad's favorite when it comes to wantan mee though I myself have not tried it!

  10. The portion of each dishes looked quite big for 2 persons, normally Dai Chow place like this will cook the portion according to the pax number.

    1. If I remember correctly, they state the size and small, regular or large. I presume the cooked small for us.
