Makan Makan


This is about my makan-makan for the last 2 weeks or so. Too much eating out, I tell you. I should really make an effort to start food prepping again. How many times have I said that?

Who knows it might happen next week heh..heh...


Next question. Who loves paru? I am a big fan of paru (lungs) and I tried the one at Chef Omar as an add-on with the nasi lemak.


I had the nasi lemak with ayam masak merah. Without a doubt it was very good. The paru is cooked berempah style but I prefer the berlada type. So this paru is not for me.


Later on I tried their Beef Noodle Soup. It was not what I had hoped for. The broth was lacking in the robust beefiness that I would expect and it was also short on aromatic spices. Maybe I went on a wrong day. The broth could use more seasoning and that's where the dry chili dip comes in. It is salty and spicy and helped flavor the beef noodles.


Today I returned for the nasi lemak (I had actually ordered nasi kerabu but the girl gave me nasi lemak) with beef rendang. Oh yes, it was so good! I also got a complimentary dessert (just like in previous visits). This time the dessert was durian flavored. Conclusion - stick to their forte which is nasi kerabu and nasi lemak.


I went to Sopoong on Thursday because I was craving for Dakgalbi. I ordered the canned Korean drink (this time pear juice, with pulp) because I noted that the Korean canned drinks are not that sweet.


Unfortunately, the Dakgalbi was not as good as before. It was too watery and lacked the flavors I have come to love. I wish they would be consistent on food quality. 


And then I craved for Vietnamese and decided to revisit Pho Vietz to eat their pho just to compare with my other Vietnamese favorite. For pho, my preference is Pho Real's.


But when it comes to the vermicelli salad, Pho Vietz wins hands down. 


I also revisited Qing He Gu for the set lunches. They are doing brisk business at lunch time which is a good sign.

Many people come in groups for the BBQ or lunch sets. The table next to me had a partition because half of the table is not to be occupied.


On my first visit I had the Kimchi Jigae set. I just want to taste and see how the kimchi jigae at restaurants compare to the one I cooked at home.

The banchan served is still as generous as before. I found the kimchi jigae very tasty - sourish and savory. There were chunks of pork in the stew. Needless to say, I was stuffed and I skipped dinner.


A few days later I returned to try the Sundubu Jigae. This one contains seafood - one prawn and a few small clams.


Oohh!!! It was so good! I really loved this Sundubu Jigae. Perhaps I should attempt to cook this at home too.


Well, I have been enjoying my own Kimchi Jigae at home too and I think I might be addicted to it hah..hah...

  2. Eeeekkkkkk!!!! No, thank you, no Korean for me...but I would love Vietnamese...and that nasi lemak that you got by default does look good. Malaysian cuisine, simply the best!

  5. I have not eaten paru before. Perhaps I should try it next time. Wonderful meals you have been having. Good that you are enjoying your food. I am now wondering should I make a special trip to eat at qing he gu.

    1. Only if you are passing by lah. The sets at RM18 are value for money. You even get free ice cream and coffee.

  7. No paru for me too though i do eat intestines but no thanks to lungs. Korean and nasi lemak for me but not so much into vietnamese.

  9. i'm not a fan of lungs but i do love liver and wish more places served that :D and for pho, my favourite in kl is probably at an viet :D

  10. Oh, you have been eating a lot of solo lunches, I see. I'm a fan of innards but somehow not those from a lembu...kekeke (so no paru for me either)! ;) Well, you'd be right to stick to their forte...after all, Chef Omar was previously known as Pak Omar Champion Nasi Lemak...hah..hah! ;D

  11. The banchan for your set lunch were definitely more than generous, some Korean restaurants offer lesser than these even for normal ala carte dinner/lunch.

  13. I used to dine at Sopoong often and the friendly lady boss would greet me to ask about their food & services. I would always tell her my frank comments about their Korean food by boasting that I lived with Koreans before. It's high time for my visit as I like their quick service.

    1. The food frankly is not up to mark if you have eaten very good Korean food. I am sure your standards are quite high! I would say that there is room for improvement and consistency.
