Stressful Saturday : To The Vet We Go!

A visit to the vet. Who is more stressed - the cat or mommy? But before that - confession. This is my cat's first visit to the vet.

Yah.. yah... I know...I know... I should have taken her to the vet last year when I adopted her. But moving forward, I made an appointment to send her in on Saturday.

First up, I had to get her to go into her carrier. I bought the carrier last year. Of late, she has been more accepting of staying indoors. In fact on Thursday, I left her in the house when I went to work.

But this morning, she sensed that something was going on.

She refused to come inside and I had to lure her with something yummy. In fact, the night before, I gave her one stick (she loved it) just for a preview.

She seemed to be taking the bait and I inched backward into the house.

She wasn't having any of it. Tak layan. In the end, I had to haul her inside and with the help of my partner, we managed to get her into the carrier.

There was a lot of protest of course. I felt bad doing that to her.

Like so kesian like that. Then my partner drove us to the vet. My cat was crying and whining in the car. That really broke my heart. I was so stressed (she even more).

The clinic was empty when we arrived, just the vet and his assistant. So my cat got examined right away.

When the vet took her out of the carrier, his first word was "pui" (fat) hah...hah... My fatty bom bom cat was so frightened, that she attempted to crawl back into her carrier. The vet gave her a jab and fed her a pill for de-worming. He also applied some medication to rid her of fleas.

Then I asked if he provided grooming services which he does. He trimmed my cat's claws (yay!) and took her inside for a shower. I was very worried how she would react.

There you go, her first pom pom session. The vet is very skillful and he handled her well.

After the shower, he toweled her dry.

With her fur all wet, she looked skinny hee..hee...

Then it was time to dry her off with a hair dryer. The vet did warn that she might be afraid of the air blowing at her (and the loud noise).

He put her inside a cage and started blow drying her. Yes, she struggled in the cage. I felt so sorry for her.

In between blow drying, the vet combed her.

Then some people came into the clinic and his assistant took over.

After she was done, I carried her back into the examination room. There she got another jab from the vet. Surprisingly, for both jabs, she was calm and did not struggle. My partner reckon that she must have been so scared that she just froze.

Once it was all over, we took her home. The visit cost me RM190.00. My cat is due for another booster jab next month. That went rather well I would say though it must have been quite a traumatic experience for my cat. But it was necessary.

We left her at home because we both had to work. When he dropped me in Damansara Uptown, I headed to Orale for lunch. I thought they already closed down when I passed by about a month ago.

But apparently, they have re-opened.

I was very eager to eat the beef burrito.

Sadly it did not taste as good as before. The rice was hard, either undercooked or leftovers. The beef content was much less and the flavors were lacking. So sad.

To console myself, I headed to the mall to eat my favorite frozen yogurt. I don't know if it was the stress (still wearing off) or what, I did not enjoy the yogurt. The almond sprinkles had an off taste.

Oh well. I am just glad that I finally took my cat to the vet and the visit was not too bad. But I don't look forwards to the follow up hah...hah...

  1. Even though we do not enjoy taking our pet to the vet, it has to be done. Whenever I took my pet dogs to the vet, they can sense it. Their tail would be between their legs, and I will have to carry them into the clinic. When they were place on the examination table, they will be shivering with fear. So pitiful.

  2. So how is Girl Girl when you got back from work? She is all manja with you? I think you didn't enjoy the yogurt because you are still traumatized by the visit to the vet.

  5. Know how you felt. Used to accompany my mum's dogs for jab. Not easy, need to calm them down.

Everything tasted off after long close down. Hehe

  6. Actually, Girl doesn't look stressed in her cage. If she is, she'd probably be facing inwards with her back towards the opening of the cage. The fact that she's facing front means she's curious and wants to see what's happening outside. Girl was whining and crying probably because this is her first time in a carrier + she doesn't like to be caged (just like when you tried to put her in her cage at night). She will get used to it after a while. Give her a treat once she's in the cage (as a reward for being a good girl) through the carrier opening...and she will soon love the carrier...haha! ;D

It's good that Ah Girl finally had her bath and check up.  Isn't she extra fluffy after her bath that you'd want to pick her up and give her hugs & kisses? But be safe! ;)

    1. Oh I see...I tried giving her the treat but she did not want. Maybe because she was still upset and not used to the carrier. She never rejects food hah..hah..

Oh yes, she was smooth and fluffy and so sweet smelling hee..hee.. I gave her a cuddle and she got many kisses!
