Big Bowl Rice At A Noodle Place

Between rice and noodles, I prefer rice. So the next time I visited Good Pick Noodles (CLOSED), I went for the Big Bowl Rice. And oh my, the portion of rice is really BIG.

There are four choices (all priced at RM13.90) :

1. Rice with Braised Brisket and Tendon
2. Rice with Marinated Pork Belly and Egg
3. Rice with Oyster Sauce Mushrooms, Chicken and Chicken Feet
4. Rice with Luncheon Meat, Sausage, Ham and Egg

Of course, being a beef lover, my first choice was the Rice with Braised Brisket and Tendon.

The first thing that struck me was the amount of rice in that bowl. It would meet with my partner's approval. It was huge. The four pieces of beef brisket were quite sizeable t00 and so was the serving portion of the tendon.

I topped up with an ala carte serving of Lettuce with Oyster Sauce (RM5.90). I actually ordered Choy Sum with Oyster Sauce but this was served (by mistake) and I did not want to make a fuss.

My only complaint is that there was not enough "chap" (gravy) and the rice was a bit dry. Overall a satisfying meal for a big eater.

The Iced Black Coffee (RM4.50) is very good but I found it too strong for me. It kept me awake the whole night. Yup, no joke! I tested this coffee twice and both times I was sleepless. Much as I love it, it is to be avoided unless taken on a day where I expect to stay up.

Then I went back for the Rice with Marinated Pork Belly and Egg. Ah, they gave one whole egg, good. There were 5 slices of pork belly and again, not enough "chap" (gravy).

Being the champion that I am, I ordered the Marinated Pig Intestine (RM5.90) from the ala carte menu. I must say that it was quite a generous serving and provided me with some gravy for my rice.

I had the Iced Black Coffee again (testing, testing) and sure enough that night I got no sleep. Haiz....

Finished. All gone.

On another visit, I had the Rice with Oyster Sauce Mushrooms, Chicken and Chicken Feet. There was more gravy on the rice but this was the least enjoyable of the three rice bowls.

The mushrooms were bland and the chicken was bony and hard. The only thing nice was the chicken feet which were braised till soft and falling off the bone.

Of course I had to have an add-on dish.

Braised Beef Tendon (RM10.90), my favorite. There was some thick gravy in this dish for my rice.

Quite a heavy meal but as usual, I finished everything.

No more black coffee for me, I chose Ice Lemon Tea (RM4.50 with option for less sugar). It was refreshing and barely sweet.

One more to try, the last one, Rice with Luncheon Meat, Sausage, Ham and Egg. I do hope that the quality of luncheon meat, sausage and ham are of acceptable quality. We'll see.

  1. Another mistake by the server, what is going on? Lol. My first choice would be the pork belly rice. You are a rice person and big eater like me. High five!

  2. Between rice and noodles, I prefer noodles...that's where we differ, I guess (though I do like rice, fried rice that is)! ;) You yourself mentioned that the Big Bowl Rice is big (and if they're anything like HK Boy Cart Noodle, I know for sure the serving is indeed very big)...yet you managed to finish all the rice and a side dish as well....champion-lah you! ;D

  3. All the option ngam me but from the photo, No 4 looked appetizing. I am not so crazy about beef tendon so I would not chose that.

  4. Ah, I thought you tried the last one too. It will definitely be the beef brisket and beef tendon for me. I will have to keep part of the huge portion of rice for another time. This eatery is a must-try for me. Thanks for the review.

    1. I am concerned that the luncheon meat and sausage used is of poor quality but I should not assume. Never try, never know.

  9. That's really big in portion, not only the rice but the meat too!
Maybe you can ask for more gravy for your rice on your next visit, I think they will more than willing to add more for you.

  10. That's a tricky choice as I enjoy both rice and noodles. I do like them wholegrain though so maybe my decisions are better made between white or wholegrain.
