Ramen Bari Uma, Jaya Shopping Centre

One weekend my brother and I had a lunch date at Ramen Bari Uma@Jaya Shopping Centre. Why Ramen Bari Uma

Because (1) I have read good reviews and (2) I was at MyTown Shopping Centre not too long ago and chose Pho Street over Ramen Bari Uma to my regret. How did I end up at MyTown? That's another story for another day.

We got there at around 12:00pm and the restaurant was empty. In fact the whole floor was deathly quiet. I'll tell you about it in a bit.

We decided on the Ajitama-Uma with side orders of Karaage (not just my partner is a fan but my brother too), Yakitori and Gyoza.

Iced green tea (RM3.00) for drinks because there is no coffee hah..hah...

The Ajitama Uma (RM27.90). Ooooohhhh.... I loved the smoky flavor of the pork flavored shoyu soup and the flamed chasu! The portion of ramen was very generous. It was so filling.

Just a bowl of ramen is already sufficient to fill one up but then where is the fun without sides?

I thought the Karaage (4 pieces, RM11.90) was rather good but my brother says Connie's (of the now closed Hokano) is still better.

The Gyoza (5 pieces, RM11.90) was just OK.

The Yakitori (we chose chicken thigh and pork belly, RM6.90 for 2 pieces, total RM20.70) could have been better with more charring.

We were stuffed! Total damage RM123.30.

On our way out, we noticed this mission statement of sorts.

When we stepped out of the restaurant, we noted how quiet the whole floor was. Gosh.

Many shop spaces were boarded up (some with new tenants coming in). Then we saw Little Korea.

It was closed and had a notice on the door.

Oh dear. It is under receivership. Times are bad.

  1. Good to hear you approve of their ramen. I have eaten at this exact branch once and I agree that it is one of the better ramen. Oh dear, it doesn't sound good for this shopping center with so many shops closed.

    1. I won't mind coming back for more. I remember back in those days when Jaya Shopping Centre was one of the places to be! Assunta girls used to hang out here after school (the naughty ones, not me hee...hee...)

  2. Well, well, looks like you made it here for the ramen and flamed chasu....two years later...kekeke! ;) Glad to hear you loved it as I know you would since you like intense flavours. I was even greedier than you...my bowl had 5 slices of chasu...wuahahahaha! :D I had almost similar dishes to the ones you had except for the kaarage but your gyozas didn't come with that crispy sheet of batter at the bottom.

    1. Yes, better late than never! hee..hee... I regretted not checking your review after my underwhelming experience at Pho Street. Well, on my next visit, I am going to get extra chasu hah...hah....

  3. RM123!!! For two persons??? *faints* I have not seen any alluring ramen in the menus at the sprinkling of Japanese eateries that we have here - I sure would love that.

    2. I know, so expensive but that's the prices over here for good ramen. From my experience, it is not worth ordering ramen from restaurants that do not specialize in it.

  4. The broth looks very thick, must be very tasty... yes, I would be super stuffed too if I were to eat them all!

    1. The broth was excellent. But next time, just one bowl (and maybe extra pork) will do.

  5. Everything looks delicious and I like all the sides. Hope this place will not have to shift or close like the others.

  6. Cheras is quite far from where you (me too) stay, I wonder why you were there? #kepoh
The soup seem like quite thick, thicker than the Ramen I usually had at other places, which looked almost like paste =.="=

    1. There's no fun without sides! In fact sometimes they outshine the mains!
